Fresh home from David Bowie's concert on this balmy Melbourne night... the band was incredible and David's performance was nothing short of astounding.
We didn't get to hear 'Space Oddity' but the opening 'Rebel Rebel', with 'Suffregate City,' 'Heroes,''Panic In Detroit,''Moonage Daydream,''Ziggy Stardust,' etc. etc. made up for all that was missed.
Highlight for me was introduced as a live rarity - 'Quicksand', my favourite song from my favourite Bowie LP 'Hunky Dory.'
Catch his current tour if ya can... David Bowie's live show is awesome!! ;)

What a show it must have been, I was just last night, educating my kid about Major Tom (my kid loves astronomy, and Major Tom was a beautiful song).  Only thing my kid knows about Bowie is when Avril Lavigne pronounced his name Bow- wee (as in bough -wee) at the music awards.

...and because of that I purposefully hide her CD's in music stores whenever I find them.

It's been my personal challenge to make sure not another one of her CD's get's sold in my town! The funny thing is I've checked where I've hidden them and most of the time they're still there months later! Of course that's because she's on her way out and no one's buying them anyhow! She had her 15 minutes and seriously blew it with that pronunciation error!

I've always heard
David Bowie (rhymes with Joey)
Lester Bowie (rhymes with Maui)
Bowie knife (rhymes with Louie)

I saw Bowie on the '95 tour with Nine Inch Nails and Prick.  The Hartford,CT, crowd seemed to be there mostly for NIN, unfortunately.  I did enjoy NIN's show, but Bowie was spectacular.  However, he didn't play most of his big hits, so a couple of times I felt self conscious as I could hear myself cheer for songs such as "Andy Warhol," and "1984."

Correct.  Which, in a round-about way is how his son got the nickname "Joey".  It wouldn't make sense otherwise.

I'll bet he was definetly awesome though!!

He is someone I definetly want to see in concert the next time he comes to Vegas.

oooooooooooooooooooooooh I am getting so excited !!!!

we have 14th row centre seats on Monday night in Perth and I totally CANT WAIT.

I was at the Hyatt this afternoon and saw his band arrive - he wasnt with them - one of them told me he was on the next flight - darnit.

Love the review RB !!  I will do my best to memorise the Perth set list but I am shocking - I generally remember everything about a gig except that !!  Dont ask me what Fleetwood played last night !

Would anyone want to fly me to Australia so I can sneak into a show and see Bowie? I would do almost anything to get my little hands on a pair of tickets to ANY show!!!...Well, maybe not. But I would like to see him really badly!!

I have been home exactly 30 minutes from THE Bowie concert.

Oh god - he was so awesome.  I wish I could be that thin when I am 57 !!!!!!  I wish I could be that thin NOW !!

We were smack bang in the centre of the row - 14 rows from the stage - but he had this platform that came out about 8 rows so for a lot of the time he was only a few rows away from us.

Anyway - I snuck my teeny half a mega pixel digicam in so these are totally crap pics - but we were there !!!!!!  I couldnt take the good camera as they were searching and confiscating cameras.

For the Aussies - I was sitting in the rows reserved for channel 7 & 9 folk so as well as a load of familiar reporters I was also sitting near basketballer Luc Longley and cricketer Brendon Julian (thank gawd the were not directly in front on me cos both are over 6 foot 4 !!!) and also ex West Coast Eagle Chris Mainwaring.

I have Under Pressure stuck in my head !!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh Revbaby - thanks so much for the set list !!  As I said I am useless at remembering songs after a concert.  Tho I did walk home listing about 30 songs he DIDNT do !!!!  But man that would have been a long gig !!

Ooooh I remembered something he said.  When the music started for China Girl he didnt start singing - so we all just sung like two full verses.  He stopped the band and said "wow - out of the entire world tour only you guys and Melbourne knew all the words to that - well done - you make me proud".

Under Pressure - one of my all time faves too (and it kinda cracked me up when halfway thru I was having scenes from We Will Rock You cluttering up my head!!).  What a great voice that girl had - I missed her name - she was amazing.

There was a bit where I so wished I had my better camera.  He walked along these high ramps on the right side of the stage.  Then he lay down and rested his chin in his hands and sung.  It would have made such a beautiful shot.

And all along Riverside Drive people were sitting with eskys and umbrellas, and climbing power poles for a view - and he could actually see them over the fencing so he called out to them - he referred to them as "the illegitimate ones" !!!  It reminded me of Neil Diamond on Hot August Night - "Hello to all the tree people" !!!

I'll be honest and say that while I am a devoted Bowie fan of the 70's and 80's - I havent bought an album since Tonight.  But I was so impressed with the songs he did from Reality that I will be at the shops on the weekend to buy it.  It seemed to be back to all the good things I liked about him 25 years ago.

And his final words of the night were that he wouldnt wait 21 years before returning to Perth again.  YEAY!!!!!
