I did not see it when it first came out in '78. But I do remember the advertising campaign. The radio ads scared the hell out of me!  :o I remember a male narrator with a deep voice saying at the end of the commercial:"Dawn of the Dead, banned in 25 countries!". I don't think it was James Earl Jones, but I do believe this narrator was an African American vocal artist who would always lend his voice for horror movie trailers. I remember classmates in the 9th grade telling me how gory it was (this was '82,so they must have seen a re-issue). I also remember one kid describing the helicopter scene in graphic detail. This description hit home when Vic Morrow was dismembered in real life by a helicopter on the set of "Twilight Zone:The Movie".  :'(Thanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve.

I rented the "unrated" version last year. But I have been told there is a director's cut that has even more footage than the version I saw. Have you seen the director's cut?  ??? Thanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve

Yeah there's a Directors Cut, wich is the one I reccomend. I don't have it on DVD, but I assume the DVD would have the same if not more features. Those creepy trailers are included on the Anchor Bay VHS Directors Cut. There's also a bootled full length cut that edits in all the Dario Argento footage not in Romero's version into the Directors Cut. Not much more other than gore, but there is a really touching scene that is not in any of Romero's cuts of Roger in his wheelchair by the waterfall apparently contemplating his fate.

It's so strange that a blood and guts horror movie has such an emotional impact on the viewer. That is the genius of Romero.

If you would like to see a brilliant non horror Romero film I HIGHLY reccomend Knightriders. it features Ed Harris in his first lead role. Brilliant film .
