Subject: What was your favorite toy in the 70's?
After a few trips down memory lane, and some soul-searching,I would have to say my favorite toy from this era was Playdo. :D Sincerely,Steve.
Subject: Re: What was your favorite toy in the 70's?
I liked MATCHBOX CARS In the '70s they were all metal (except for plast wheels), and made in England. Much better quality than they are now. Oh, and they looked like miniatures of real cars!
Subject: Re: What was your favorite toy in the 70's?
I can't pick one, I have too many favorites.
Weebles Wobbles and the playsets (Camper, Haunted House and the Ranch)
Show and Tell, the record player with the film strips.
Shaker Maker
The Sunshine Family.
Barbie!!!!!!!!!!
Having a daughter of my own, I can still play with Barbies. One thing I've noticed, years ago the clothes were made like real clothes, working zippers, buttons that buttoned, and real cool fabrics like tweed, wool, sweaters and real fur at times. Now the clothes are cheap (not price but quality) and everything has velcro on it.
Oh, a few months ago my husband and I got an Easy-Bake Oven...we tell everyone it's for our daughter, but actually it's for me, I wasn't allowed to have one as a kid. :)

Such wonderful memories. I also enjoyed playing with my Etch a Sketch,Tinker Toys,Light Bright, and my G.I. Joe action figures. This was the original G.I. Joe from the late 60's,early 70's. Not the cheap remake from the mid 80's. My G.I. Joe was about 6-7 inches tall, and had curly hair,a beard, and his famous "Kung-Fu grip". Thanks for the memories! :)Sincerely,Steve.
Subject: Re: What was your favorite toy in the 70's?
I very much enjoyed "Mr. Microphone". ;D
Subject: Re: What was your favorite toy in the 70's?
GI Joe, the big six inch tall one, not the angry shunken ones of the 80's..I think my mom was whined into buying every possible accessory..
Big Wheel, its amazing how fast you could get one going as a kid, and they had no "real" brakes..
The Green Machine, again, another variation of the Big Wheel, but you steered with two levers that actually changed the direction of the REAR wheels, kind of like how a forklift steers. Amazingly DANGEROUS for a kid, it was like a small plasitc three-wheeled ATV, to beleive they actually sold this to kids..

I swear I had a big GI Joe way back, but the memory is kind of blurry. I had a bunch of the '80s action figures. I was getting a bit old for 'em, but I didn't care! They had a profile on the back of the bubble pack for each one. All the American GI Joe character profiles referred to NATO, and all the Cobra Force (Russkies, commies) referred to Warsaw Pact. The Cobra guys were always masked, made them less human, easier to kill.
I never had a Green Machine, though they looked sooo cool in the TV commercials, and what kid wouldn't want something called a Green Machine?8)
I loved my Big Wheels, though. It was sort of sports tricycle. I used to drive like a madman all over the place. I was lucky because we had a huge barn and plenty of space so I could get up to top speed without getting smacked into by a truck! I still remember what the flight of the Big Wheel felt like when I see the Big Wheel scenes from The Shining.

Used to love Etch-a-sketch. Had a few of them. One died because one of my sisters accentently sat on it. We had that grey sand EVERYWHERE. I remember one time, I "erased" the entire screen. It looked pretty cool inside.

Let's see...my big wheel, green machine, KISS dolls, Mattell Classic Football, Merlin, all of my Star Wars toys, expecially the X-Wing fighter, TIE fighter and Millennium Falcon (I wish I still had that stuff), Muhammad Ali doll, Stretch Armstrong and Etch-a-Sketch.

I loved my Etch-a-Sketch, but I was never coordinated enough to draw actual "things," :( so I stuck to wild abstractions! :)
On a similar principle, I had a "Dapper Dan." "Dapper Dan" was the bust of a man under clear plastic. You used a magnet to take shreds of steel and draw hair, mustache, beard, bow tie, or whatever on him.

My absolute favourite toy was an HO scale model train set I got when I was five. I still have it, too. ;D
But I also have to add Lego as a very close second.
A couple of runner-ups would be: Matchbox cars with the orange plastic race track you could join together to make real long ramps off .. say.. a little brothers dresser. :D Followed by my Millenium Falcon and X-Wing small scale metal toy space ship. If my parents had've bought me the Space 1999 Eagle that could have easily outranked the Star Wars space ships (I never did get into the Star Wars dolls.. ).

I remember seeing those small diecast metal spaceships in stores,Secret Squirrel. Weren't they made by a company called Dinky? I think they were called the Dinky Star Fleet. I think they did not use the one word spelling:"Starfleet". Maybe to avoid a law suit from Paramount and whoever owned the rights to the Star Trek copyright? "Starfleet" was the name of the academy Captain Kirk graduated from, on Star Trek. Thanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve. :)

Ha ha ha!, The Dinky Star Fleet! :D
I don't remember the Star Trek line, but I will vouch for a toy company called "Dinky" that made diecast metal toys. I remember the "Matchbox" style of toy cars they had.

Yikes there are so many!
My fav things were the Aurora Monster Model kits.
Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean 'zap action' model kits . The gimmick with these was that during building ,you had to attach a rubber band from point a to point b hidden inside the diorama. Then when it was built, you pushed a button, and depending on wich kit you had something got chopped off or let loose.
the Strange Change Machine. It had these little plastic blocks that when you put them in the heated chamber transformed into dinosaurs.
Planet of the Apes action figures and ALL accessories :)
The Steve Austin action figure from the Six Million Dollar Man. It had these little bionic compartments you could remove.
Of course I couldn't live without my Erector Set, tho I'm pretty sure that was invented b4 the 70's.
I'm sure I'm forgetting tons.

Erector sets date back at least to the 1940s. I had one from that period I inherited from my uncle. I'm not sure when Tinker Toys were invented, but I had a whole mess of 'em. I also had a set of "Giant Tinker Toys." Other stuff I had to build other stuff with: Leggos (of course), Lincoln Logs, and Bristle Blocks.

The first VG system we had was a Magnavox Odyssey. It was reeeallly primitive. We wanted an Atari, because Atari was way cooler. Eventually, we got one!

I remember that green stuff called "slime". It was in a little
plastic green trashcan. It looked just like the stuff from your
nose if you know what I mean. LOL! I used to love to make the girls scream with that stuff in my grade school years LOL

We used to just use rubber cement. You take the applicator and smear it on your fingers, then you turn around and go, "Hey, Debbie, I got BOOOOGERRRZZ!!
"EEEEEEEEK!!"

I wanted "Slime" as birthday or Christmas present, but my mom wouldn't buy it for me. She said it would stain,or possibly ruin, the living room carpet, and furniture. :( Thanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve.

I had that Evil Knevil Stunt Motorcycle. I used to set up jumps for him and watch him flip over. Sometimes I could make him land back on his wheels. Sometimes, I'd send him flying straight at the cat!

LOL . I used to do the same thing but it wasn't the cat . It was my cousin's and her friends Barbis . I'd wait till they had all their Barbis set up in that big Barbi house and then I'd ramp it into the side of it . Boy , they would get all bent out of shape over that .

Oh, I used to do some interesting things with my sister's Barbie dolls... :-X
When we were in kinny-garten my friend an I went a little nuts and totally trashed my big sister's antique dollhouse. It was like a home invasion by alien mutant thugs! I suppressed the memory for decades, but it came back to me when she brought it up a while back. Not sure what my punishment was, but she said my dad helped her rebuild the thing and replace the furnishings. They had to order some of it from toy boutiques in NYC! I probably couldn't deal with the extent of my trespass, so I just buried it in my subconscious!
