Subject: The Ultimate Turntable!!!!
Written By: Joeybear on 12/04/03 at 08:49 p.m.
I just finished reading Seventies Girl's post about 45s, and decided to post this information about what I call "the ultimate turntable". Granted, it's PRICEY, but man oh man, this thing is a gem. In addition to using it to help get my vinyl collection onto CD, I also use it to restore 78's for people....
First, the turntable has both Analog and Digital Outs. The digital outs offer a transfer method which is loss-free and noise-free. A side benefit is that no power line hum is ever transferred using this method. Next, the analog out has a RIAA preamp already in the unit. This means you don't need a preamp between the turntable and the line-input on your soundcard. If you have a super good preamp already, you can switch the preamp in the turntable off and get a standard phono level output directly from your cartridge.
Another feature is the analog input on the turntable. This means you can plug your CD player, minidisc, MP3 player or any line level device into this input and the audio from it will go to your computer when you are not playing a record. This is a nice convienience.
This is a very high quality direct drive turntable so you'll never have to replace the drive belt. One thing that some people have done is use the backwards play function in conjunction with audio restoration software.
The speed change function on this is super nice and you'll be able to adjust your 78s to exactly the correct speed with this one. Since there's a digital processor on board, you can even change the speed without changing the pitch.
At $299 this is a very heavy and super well done turntable. It also plays 78s.
