Subject: You're so vain
Just curious, does anyone know if Carly Simon wrote ”You’re so vain” for/about any one person in particular? ::)
Thanks.

Here is a link for you, malinan.

I heard it was for Mick Jagger but recently heard it for someone else, but I forgot who.

Thank you for the answers!
Great link Bobby, she will leave us hanging on that one, huh :-X ! She must be having herself a good private little chucke over all the speculations. It is a great song.

there was quite recently an auction for the right to KNOW who the song was actually written about. some one paid a great sum of $$ to know the answer to that question.. LOL except by agreement they can not share that info with anyone else !

I don't know if this had been referenced before, but here is a quote which I found on Songfacts.
Simon has never said who this is about. Some of the rumors are Warren Beatty, Kris Kristofferson, Cat Stevens, and Mick Jagger, all of whom she had affairs with.

I didn't realise there was any speculation to this song. My guess is none of those (Mick Jagger, Warren Beattie . . .) because she sings the line 'you probably think this song is about you'.
Wouldn't all three of those people we stated previously think 'this song was about them'?

I heard about that. It must be nice to have boocoo bucks just to spend on knowing who a song was about.

Yes I agree, but at least it was a charity auction.
Subject: Re: You're so vain
I think she wrote the song about me, cause I'm so good!

I loved the link someone sent with all of Carly's responses.

Son of a gun. I heard it was Mick Jagger, then I heard it was Warren Beatty. I doubt that it's Mick Jagger, because he sings backup vocals on "You're So Vain".
Subject: Re: You're so vain
I've heard most often it was about James Taylor, but I've heard of late this was bogus.

Actually, I would think that would be quite funny. ;D
