Yep! Another vote for dear ol' Beaker from me - and the Swedish chef, too!...mind you, all the characters were marvellous...

There was a very sad and touching tale when Jim Henson died suddenly in 1990. At the rememberance service, apart from the floral tributes and what-have-you, there was a solitary figure of Kermit - prominently displayed from the rest...just underneath was a solitary message...'I've lost my voice...'

I believe you're right, karen, the show was produced in England with a lot of UK technicians and production staff. However I think we have to recognise that the majority of creative input came from Americans like Jim Henson and Frank Oz. Plus of course Sesame Street was a US production (from "The Children's Television Network", if memory serves).

I hope you don't mind me clarifying...it's Children's Television Workshop.  You remember this kind of stuff when you watch Sesame Street five days a week (sometimes twice in one day, at 8AM and 4PM) between the ages of 3 and 6.  :)

Whether made in England or on the moon, these are AMERICAN ICONS because they mean something to us.  Kermit, Sesame Street, etc, are AMERICAN ICONS because they are part of American Culture.....and Henson was American.
