Subject: New Ice Age
Written By: Mr_80s on 09/05/03 at 09:08 a.m.
With all the current talk about "Global Warming", I am wondering if anybody else remembers the talk in the mid 1970's about a new ice age?
I seem to remember around 1975 a series of books and movies talking about how all the CO2 and polution cooling the earth, and making a new ice age. At that time, Buffalo and other NE cities were getting record winters, and all the scientists and environmental types were screaming that we were going to cause the world to be covered by ice again.
Whenever I hear about "global warming", I think back to those same scientists looking at the same data 20 years earlier, and comming up with totally different results.
BTW: The "global cooling" data was also responsible for the predictions of "nuclear ice age", and is the same data responsible for global warming.

An excellent example of chaos in action. Slight variations in data creating drastic changes in the final answer.
Actually there is a bit of a discussion about global warming/cooling in the Bill Bryson book A Short History of Almost Everything. Can't remember all the details because I read the whole book in a couple of days and its all a bit of a jumble still!
