Subject: Santana!

Written By: lebeiw15 on 08/16/03 at 12:00 a.m.

As many of you probably already know, my favorite band is Santana.  Their music is great and Carlos is excellent with the guitar.  What are your favorite songs by Santana?

A few of mine:

Oye Como Va
Body Surfing
Evil Ways
Winning
Night Hunting Time
What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)
...and others

As well as their newer stuff:

Smooth
Why Don't You And I
Maria, Maria
Nothing at All
Adouma
Africa Bamba

Those are just a few to start off... :)

Hmmm......I don't know too many Santana songs, but on his new cd there's a song called Victory is Won. I like that one.

I like Santana's older music from the 70's and early 80's.

Here are a few of my favorites:

~Hold On
~Oye Como Va
~Evil Ways

~Black Magic Woman (this one is good, but I've grown tired of it from hearing it so much over the years) :-/

Here's a bit of trivia for you guys:

Neal Schon and Greg Rollie, both founding members of the rock band Journey, played with Santana in their early days.  It's true!  8)

Lebiew, I've seen hundreds of bands live in my long lifetime, some of the real monster classic rock bands, but if you want to experience the classiest, most professional, tightest, concerts you could ever imagine, go see Santana live! Another suggestion, find an old album intitled "Buddy Miles and Carlos Santana Live". There may be flashier, or faster guitarists in the world but for my money, Carlos is in a class by himself.

Santana has always been a fav of mine.  Black Magic Woman and Smooth are 2 of my favorits, but the guy is just GOOD.  Viva la musica Latina, Viva Salsa.

Carribean music is what most people in the US are familiar with, but you might also like Andean music, which also the three roots of Hispanic culture (Indian, Spanish and African), but in different measures.  Check out a group called Inti Illimani if your interested.  They do fantastic things with the pan pipes.  ;D

I like his early stuff-Black Magic Woman and Evil Ways, but Smooth really does it for me.

His new album is good but haven't listened to it too much.

ABRAXAS is probably my favorite studio album, but you just can't beat a live Santana jam session.  Admittedly, I have lost interest in the last 2 albums.  Too many "guest stars".  :P

I have seen that album and have thought about buying it but I haven't yet.  I will have to look for that sometime; I've heard some really good things about it.  Thanks. :)
