1970 - In The Summertime - Mungo Jerry - yep, still there! Lasting longer than most British summers do! Likeable piece of good-time music...special mention must be made of the record that spent 5 long weeks behind it and never got to the summit...All Right Now - Free, sometimes there's no justice...
1971 - Get It On - T.Rex - ...otherwise known as "Bang A Gong" in the US (their only hit), a huge slab of early glam...nice! Featured a pre-Yes Rick Wakeman bashing the piano...Younger persons may remember the Power Station version of a few years later...
1972 - Puppy Love - Donny Osmond - ...just as America was tiring of the Osmonds, so they shipped 'em over here! Likeable update of Paul Anka's teeny-angst ballad of years before...
1973 - I'm The Leader Of The Gang (I Am) - Gary Glitter - ...which unoffically became known as his theme tune...rousing piece of noise by the man who, if he asked "Do You Wanna Be In My Gang?", most self-respecting people would answer, "Not bloody likely!"
1974 - Rock Your Baby - George McCrae - ...no stopping this! Excellent tune which stands up well to this day...was actually recorded as a "time-filler" when his wife failed to show up for a joint recording session...
1975 - Give A Little Love - Bay City Rollers - ...the Tartan Terrors with a syrupy teen-ballad which retains some kitsch value...sent packing to the US by the end of the year, and when they returned, no-one here could remember who they were...!
1976 - Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton John & Kiki Dee - ...was, until 1990, Elton's only visit to the UK #1 slot...Kiki remains a very under-rated artist, IMO...still a likeable tune...
1977 - I Feel Love - Donna Summer - ...her only #1 which introduced the world to the "cold" production techniques of Giorgio Moroder - groundbreaking at the time, but sounds horrifically dated now...
1978 - You're The One That I Want - John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John - ...it seemed at one point that John & Livvy were going to remain here until doomsday...fondly remembered by all...gains extra glory for managing to keep the dreaded Smurf Song off the top...
1979 - I Don't Like Mondays - Boomtown Rats - ...Bob & Co attacking some rather serious material, the shooting incident at a San Diego school by one of the pupils...memorable "minimalist"-type video wrapped up in a memorable song...

1970 - In The Summertime - Mungo Jerry : 3 - catchy but irritating
1971 - Get It On - T.Rex : 5 - they don't get any better
1972 - Puppy Love - Donny Osmond : 1 - grooo.....
1973 - I'm The Leader Of The Gang (I Am) - Gary Glitter : 4 - the sillier side of glam
1974 - Rock Your Baby - George McCrae : 2 - makes no impression
1975 - Give A Little Love - Bay City Rollers : 2 : not quite "grooooo...." but almost
1976 - Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton John & Kiki Dee : 2 - just dull
1977 - I Feel Love - Donna Summer : 5 - did someone say 'dated'. Heck, I could dance all night to this. Could Cherie Blair be the new Donna Summer (Cherie's having the smash Ibiza dancefloor hit this year, apparently, with a sampled version of her recent impromptu 'When I'm 64'.... :) )
1978 - You're The One That I Want - John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John : 3 - ok.
1979 - I Don't Like Mondays - Boomtown Rats : 3 - seemed better at the time.

That makes sense considering Mungo Jerry and The Mixtures had a similar 'clunky' style (it's the only way I can describe their music) :)
