Subject: Cigarette Query
For the past few months my friend and I have been trying to recall a discontinued brand of cigarettes. I believe they were introduced late 70's (possibly 1980).
I've googled myself to death trying to find the brand name. They were advertised as a "mintier" menthol - very refreshing. Frankly I remember it was like smoking a Pep-O-Mint Lifesaver. It was not Alpine or Newport Stripes. I think they were discontinued around 1985 or later.
My insomnia will greatly decrease if anyone can help. :)

Bellaire or Kools?
yum, I haven't had a smoke for 7 years now.

I have an old issue of Cosmo from December '75. I swear, it's 90% cigarette, booze, and perfume ads! I guess it was okay to be a lush with a bad habit, as long as you smelled good.
Two that stood out were Kool and Salem, although neither said anything about being 'mintier'.

I appreciate the replies. You can still buy Belair, Kool & Salem cigarettes. These smokes were discontinued mid 80's. I've tried a few on-line cigarette wholesalers and even e-bay to find the brand name. It's one of those things when you see the name you'll remember exactly what is.
Viewing the websites did bring back a few memories of my mom and her Friday night Bingo friends. Packs of Satin, Eve and the ever popular Virginia Slim Ultra Light 120's which always looked you were smoking a lollipop stick!

Could it have been Cameo? My mom used to smoke those and I think they quit making them around 85 or so. I live in Canada though so maybe you didn't get them there...

The two brands I used to smoke were Consulate and St Moritz. Consulate are still available here in the U.K. because I just looked in the shop this morning. COuldn't spot St Moritz though.

I, too, have wracked my brain trying to recall this brand for an article I wrote a few years ago. I clearly remember getting free samples and coupons when they were introduced in 1982 or there-'bouts and thinking they tasted similar to an Ande's mint. You're right, they didn't last very long. I couldn't/still can't find any information about it either; but I seem to remember they were also stocked in an RJ Reynolds vending machine in my dorm. The name was something 'refreshing'-sounding like Alpine, but that's not it.

WAS IT ASPEN? ???

There was a brand that was out in the 80's called Bright...very, very minty, not menthol. My friends and I used to go to the little store and buy a pack and smoke them behind the school!

OMG!!! That's IT !! (At least the one I was thinking of!)
Jeez, thanks! :)

Just daydreaming about you lovely ladies enjoying one of those minty cigarettes, very sexy.

I quit 2 years ago...but in my late teens or maybe early 20's I smoked menthol for a while. I think they were called Richland, or something like that? These may have even been a generic, I really don't remember.

Whew, all better now :o
