Subject: Looking 4 early New Wave songs.

Written By: Tigervlc on 05/27/03 at 03:50 a.m.

I'd like to know about rock and pop songs of the early years of New Wave (78 - 82 or 83). Songs like "The Records - Starry Eyes", "The Shoes - Too Late", "Modern English - I Melt With You", "Rockpile - Heart", "The Photos - Do You Have Fun", "The Plimsouls - A Million Miles Away" or "The Sinceros - Disappearing". Many of them called power-pop.

Songs which retrieved the spirit of pop and rock of the 60s.

Try The Comsat Angels's 7 Day Weekend album and listen to the songs "You Move Me" and "Falling." You should also seek out The Durutti Column's Another Setting, LC, and, their debut album, The Return Of The Durutti Column. The latter is more of an Indie-Pop phenomena and is heavy on the instrumentals... weird Poppy guitar sounds, but very likeable.

I'd probs say that Roxy Music's 'Love Is The Drug (75??) is probably one of the first New Wave songs. Also, The Cars - 'Just What I Needed' is great. Will think of some more later :)

What about "Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Buggles or "Kids In America" by Kim Wilde?

I'd just generally check out well known artists early stuff, such as Blondie, Squeeze, The Jam and Elvis Costello & the Attractions.

Also, check out:
Stranglers - Peaches
Undertones - Teenage Kicks
(These 2 are perhaps from a more 'punk-ier' perspective )
Romantics - What I Like About You

Are you not looking towards the 'synth pop' direction of new wave, beacuse that's the impression i get? If I'm wrong, say so beacuse I can recommend lots more!! :)

Well, I've got many synth-pop songs, and just a few power-pop songs. That's why I asked for the second range. However if you want to tell me about some good synth-pop which is not well-known, I'd like to know indeed.
