Subject: Blurred Images of the 70's

I was born in 1971 and have some recollections of most of my early years spent in the 70's. The earliest memory I have is watching the commercial for 'ITs ALIVE' where the camera pans a baby stroller which has a baby with horns. I seem to remember that there was a lot of fog used in the commercial. This commercial always scared me and my brother. The best cartoon show ever was 'Tarzan'-I always loved every episode because the music was so cool. The first movie I remember going to was either Bambi or Snow White, I can't remember which came out first. ALso, who can forget GUS, the mule that played football.
Queen and Kiss were the hot rock groups. I remember going to a friend's house and listening to a Queen album that had a bunch of naked people riding bicycles. Is it just me or was the artwork on albums so much better back then.
Food was different back then too. THere was TANG,Marathon candy bars,Corn Pops with the cowboy in the big yellow hat and those great glass bottles of Coke which tasted much better than from today's plastic bottles. Starsky and Hutch was my favorite show and I used to love the car they drove in. The one episode which really sticks out is the one about the vampire, probably because it was scary to me as a 5 year old. No one had heard of a touchtone phone either because we all had rotary phones. Didn't you just hate it when you dialed the wrong number and had to start all over again (it took much longer with a rotary phone-believe me)
Remember when you could get a Krystal burger for $.25 and fill up a small paper bag with candy for under $1.50. Those days are long gone but it sure is nice to have a place to talk about em. 8)

I was born a couple of years before you and can remember quite well some of the items you have mentioned. Many times I have been on here and have had my memory jarred after reading other people's posts and recollectoions. Kinda keeps the memories alive, eh.
Speaking of scary movie commercials. I still remember the one for "Silent Scream". I remember someone getting down on all fours and looking into a hole in the wall when suddenly the camera view switches to an above shot and you suddenly see the unsuspecting chick getting dragged into the hole by something unseen. Man, that really took several nights of sleep out of my life. :) Many years later, I rented the video and found it totally cheezy. Go figure.
As for phones, I remember when you had to pay extra for touch tone (in some areas they still do). One thing I did like about back then, phreaking was easier and when you hung up the phone, you disconnected the circuit. Nowadays, you have to hang up the phone for a couple of seconds to severe the connection. Sure makes it hard when you're autodialing the local ticket master for rock concert tickets!

Funny you should mention that movie. I remember this commercial too and how it would scare me pretty bad. Wasn't there someone shutting a trap door and someone being grabbed by the leg or something like that in the original trailer. I've tried to rent this one but none of the video stores carry it. I guess I''ll have to break down and buy a copy. Thanks for jogging the old memory.

Actually, another commercial that used to give me the willies was the one for "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". It was a night scene and it was like you were driving really slowly down the center of the road. The headlights didn't go far and you could see the center line slowly passing underneath you, but your eyes were drawn to the horizon where there was a light shining wayyyy in the distance. I can't recall what the narrator was saying but it was enough to give me the creeps.

That damn echo again. >:( Sorry about that, I finally realized why that happens for me. I run off solar power and when my batteries get low weird things happen with the electronics. :(
