Subject: Best Movie about the 1970's
By far "Dazed and Confused." This WAS my life in 1976. I have seen this movie two dozen times and still can't get over the way the movie captures, in scary detail, everything I remember about that time. If you were in high school in 1976, this movie is a MUST for you.
I, to this day, believe that this movie was the reason "That 70's Show" came about.

For me...
The movie with the best representation of the 70's, more specifically the late 70's, is Thank God It's Friday. It also has a killer Disco soundtrack. One of my ultimate favorite songs by Donna Summer, "With Your Love" is featured. :)
Edited to add: A few other Donna Summer hits are also included. Heck, she's in the movie and sings them herself. :D 8) It's been too long since I've seen the movie.

Coming from an african american point of view, it's got to be "Crooklyn". Man, that movie really takes me back. Check out the soundtrack.

I'd have to say "Dazed and Confused" hit it on the head nicely. Cars, attitudes, style, music... it was all captured very well without overdoing it.
K-Tel-Chick -> I tend to agree with you, although during the credits for "That 70's Show" they say it's based on a book called "On The Street". I wouldn't mind finding it and reading it someday. Somewhere I have the book that inspired the movie of the same name, "Fast Times At Ridgemont High". Quite a story if you can find it.

In my freshman year of college in 1995 we had to watch that movie..it was very intereting, since most of us were either tiny or being born in 1976..my mom is a 1977 h.s. grad and said it was pretty accurate.

http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/21/13/51m.jpgMy favorite film which I related to totally was "Now and Than" ! I related so much to it ! I was about the characters age in 1970, the year the movie is partially set in.

Another movie that I just remembered: "Detroit Rock City". It was ok, but the cars, clothes, and hair (and not to mention the music) were pretty good.

"Almost Famous"! I could relate to the struggling rock band that almost "made it". I'm also a big fan of Cameron Crowe's stuff, so I'm a little biased.

KtelChick, I totally agree with you! The funny thing is...when I saw the title to your post, clicked on it, and was waiting to see what you posted, I was thinking "Dazed and Confused"!
They got it so right....the clothes, the hair, the cars, the music, the Bicentennial...it was so cool! I was a few years younger than the people in the movie back in 1976, but not much (and I had yet to discover the wonder of ganja!). Seeing this movie really takes me back. It's funny how most "period" movies don't get the look of the time correct...it's always Hollywood's version of the look of the time. This one nailed it, though.
