Subject: Guilty Pleasures--songs

Written By: KtelChick on 04/10/03 at 08:23 a.m.

OK gang, here's a topic:  What '70's song do you "secretly" love, but know that it's likely to get a "YUCK" reaction from your friends (think "You Light Up My Life" or "Having My Baby" -type songs).

I have to come clean...  These are (just) a few of mine:

I Think I Love You--Partridge Family
Moonlight Feels Right--Starbuck
Magic--Pilot
Saturday Night- Bay City Rollers

"Afternoon Delight" - Starland Vocal Band

anything by Barry Manilow & Neil Diamond  :)

I Woke up in Love-Partridge Family (Actually, I really like the Partridge Family-mainly because of nostaligic reasons)
Thicker than Water-Andy Gibb
Dead Skunk-Laudin Wainwright III
When I Need You-Leo Sayer

A few songs by Barry Manilow and (believe it or not) Captain and Tenille (but I won't say which ones-and NO! It is not Muscrat Love!)

There are more but those are the only ones I can think of right now.

Bay City Rollers - I Only Wanna Be With You
A lot of Abba!
Bony M - Daddy Cool :S
It's awful to say, but I whenever I'm out, I end up dancing to...'I'm In The Mood For Dancing' by The Nolans  :-X
Kate Bush - Wuthering heights ( I kNow It's awful, but it's great!)

C.W. McCall- Convoy
Rupert Holmes- Escape (The Pina Colada Song)

Can the Rockford Files theme song count too?

I guess I just love listening to cheesy music sometimes. The truth being told, it's usually after I've been drinking a lot of beers, or doing Tekillya shots, or both. :o

I'm sure there are several others, but the first song that came to mind is
Escape (The Pina Colada Song) - Rupert Holmes

I'm sure I'll think of more later!

The only songs I can think of that would fit next to all these other songs is "It's Not Unusual" by Tom Jones and "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" by BJ Thomas.  And even those might not count, for they are not seventies, and I feel no guilt for listening to them.  "It's Not Unusual" is fun and bouncy, and "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" is beautiful beyond words.

For obvious reasons, I have always liked Tom Jones' song "What's New, Pussycat."  ;D

I also like some of the other songs mentioned, Spiders and Snakes, Wildwood Weed. But I also like "My Ding-a-ling" by Chuck Berry and "Junk Food Junkie." Does anyone else remember that one?

Most anything by Styx (Mainly the ballads: "Babe," "Come  Sail Away," "Lady," etc.)

"Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head"

"A Fifth of Beethoven"

Anything ABBA or disco

Bee Gees "Stayin' Alive"

Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody"

Lynyrd Skynyrd "Freebird"

And the worst song ever..... (Drum roll please)

Feelings by Morris Albert! :-[

In my defense, I must say I love the lyrics but hate the way it is sung! >:(

That was by Sailcat, Butterball - and a fine tune it is too!

Okay, I've got nothing to hide - all my credibility went years ago...

"Save Your Kisses For Me" - Brotherhood Of Man (in the days when Eurovision was worth watching!) - incredibly twee lyrics, but just so dam' catchy!

"Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" - Middle Of The Road (or Mac & Katie Kisssoon if you prefer) - ditto above

"My Baby Loves Lovin'" - White Plains - proof that the UK could actually come up with good bubblegum music, albeit a couple of years too late!

"The Pushbike Song" - Mixtures - just plain daft and all the more enjoyable for it!

There's plenty more skeletons in my cupboards, but these four are never far away from the CD especially after I've had a Yes/Smiths overload!

All the best!

Brought back memories!  This one may not be '70's, but the looooooooooong version (with the gong) of 'Nights in White Satin' by the Moody Blues.

I can't say I LOVE these songs, but when I thought about 70's (early 70's) songs One Tin Soldier popped in my head as well as The night the lights went out in Georgia.

Slumber party songs that come to mind are Smoking in the boys room, and Band of Gold. Also, I really loved Come and get your love by Redbone.

Ok, I thought of more 70's songs. BTW love Tom Jones saw him in concert when I was 6 months pregnant and rocked out! James Spader was at the at that concert. Anyone remember him? ANYHOW, how about Brandy, Horse with no name, Cover of the rolling stones, Old black water (don't know if that's the name of the song or not). Daddy's home by the Jackson 5, Rocking Robin, and pretty much anything by the Jackson 5.

I used to just LOVE I'm your Puppet by Donny Osmond. I had a purple ten speed and bowling ball because purple was his favorite color.

Not that crazy about Neil Diamond, but love the movie Saving Silverman ( I know it's not from the 70's) because I just love Jack Black.

My best friend was embarrased to buy me an Elvis Costello album. I guess because he had on those glasses and looked like a nerd, but she did. That was the late 70's.

I've got to agree with these, Paul UK. I was listening to 'My Baby loves lovin' by White Plains only yesterday.  :D

To add to the guilty list, The Fortunes 'Freedom Come, Freedom Go'. Very catchy song that always gets me humming.

'Mexico' by Les Humphries Singers is a powerful song as well - great stuff.

'If I had words' by Scott Fitzgerald and Yvonne Keeley. This has been on the film 'Babe'.

'Softly whispering I love you' by The Congregation. This song is absolutely great! Paul Young's version . . . Wasn't.
