Subject: Ice Castles
Today as I was browsing through Best Buy, something caught the corner of my eye that immediatley took me back to my childhood. So I turned slowly, looked around to catch a glimpse & there is was. The movie that first introduced me to true love, tragedy & most of all, heartthrob Robbie Benson! I started jumping up & down causing a scene as all the 16 year old salespeople looked at me in horror. So I proudly took my video and marched right up to the cashier and said "Oh my god! I can't believe you have this! Oh my god! I am so excited that I can watch one of my all time favorite movies whenever I want. And sob like a child while I watch it." :'( :D
She then proceeded to give me that look of disgust and I am sure her 16 y.o. mind was telling her I was a complete lunatic as her eyes rolled cautiously to the back of her head ::). But I didn't care! :D I just bought Ice Castles & dammit, I am going to go home right now & watch it! Yay! :D
So I came home & watched it. I cried & cried and carried on but loved every minute of it just as much as I did when my mother took me to the movies to see it back in 1979.
Aaaaahh...just had to share the joy! ;)

Haven't seen it in years-but I confessed, I cried too. :'( I actually cry when I hear the song from it-Looking Through the Eyes of Love by Melissa Manchester. I have it on a tape and cry every time I hear it.

I wouldn't say I cried over it, but I do remember the movie. And yes, I thought Robbie was a hunk then, too! ;)

I never cried over it but I did have a major thing for Lynn Holly Johnson for the longest time after I saw it. I also sang the theme as a solo in my choir in highschool :)

I remember the movie but never really got into it. I guess it is the whole skating thing that I didn't care for.
Has anyone seen Robbie Benson in American Dreams? I haven't seen him in ages and had to do a double take, but there is no mistaking his voice.

Some of the scenes from Ice Castles were filmed in the great state of Minnesota. They show the old Met Center when Robbie Benson is trying out for the Minnesota North Stars hockey team.. Both are now a thing of the past. The Minnesota North Stars are now the Dallas Stars (Long Live Dino Ciccerelli, Bobby Smith and Neil Broten). The Met Stadium and Met Center were demolished and made way for the world famous Mall Of America.
I have that movie also. I watch it from time to time. I bawl like a baby every single time.. for more reasons than the story line :)

I loved this movie when it came out. In fact, it replaced Grease, at the time, for being my favorite movie. It even prompted me to take ice skating lessons, so I could be like "Lexie." Of course, I got bored with it eventually and moved on to something else. ;D I picked up a copy a few years ago and watch it every so often. It's still a fun one to watch. :D

I was never a big Robbie Benson fan but there were a few things that he did which were really good. This movie is one of them. (The Chosen and Beauty and the Beast were a couple of others ;D)

Quoting:

Great hockey players who deserve to be remembered...Neil Broten however was better as a NJ Devil ;)
