Subject: "Bridge and Girder" Toy

Written By: Mr.NiceGuy on 02/09/03 at 04:10 a.m.

Does anyone remember a real neat toy that came out in the late '70s that I think was called "Bridge and Girder".  They were kits of certain buildings and skyscrapers, cranes, bridges etc.  They consisted of LOTS of little plastic girders that you snapped together to form a frame then covered over thin plastic fascia of windows.

I remember an elementary school friend who had one of them back then.  I remember we tried building a replica of the World Trade Center and having to use a chair in order to reach up high enough... <grin>

I had that toy.  With mine you could build a big long bridge.  But, my friend had skyscraper kind with the plastic windows.  They were a lot of fun and taught you engineering skills.

Yeah, I remember the bridge kit.  I begged my parents for 2 years to get me a set for christmas.  Unfortunately, they said it was too expensive... so I got the next best thing: LEGO.   :D

I had that too!  I used it to build a launch tower for my 6 million dollar man space ship!

We were cleaning out my grandma's basement when she passed away and found this toy.  I have it put up for when my sons get a little older.

It was cool!  It turned into a lab when it wasn't a spaceship!  I think that was the best action figure ever! Even though it had an eye that seemed to make everything smaller instead of closer AND was always full of lint...it was still the best. To this day, I hear those bionic sounds you would hear when Stevo was in action! Okay, I'm sounding a bit crazy now, but hey...he even married Farrah...how cool is that?
