yes i remember hobo kelly, everyone that i ever mention her don't know what i'm talking about, i watched her everyday when i was a little girl, remember on her show where she would pick a name from her mail pile and put it in a big box or machine and pull a crank and whatever came out on the bottom is what the kid would get from her? well i remember that she actually picked my name and i got an autographed picture of her,i don't have it anymore, kinda wish i did.

Holy cow!!! I remember both Hobo Kelly and Diver Dan!!
I was born in '61, and these shows are some of my earliest memories of being very very young...probably before 1st grade.
I get the same reaction from everyone I have ever asked about these shows...no one has ever heard of them. We lived in LaMirada, Ca. at the time. I am wondering if these shows were local to that area (L.A.).
Laurie and Feldy and Sunshine...where did you guys live when these shows were on?
PS...Hey Race, I think your Geoduck is one of the most hideous creatures I've ever seen!! ;D ;D :P
Butt I love your avatar...

H-O-B-0 K-E-double-L-Y. Hobo Kelly. Yes, I remember that show! She would put on those big plastic glasses of hers and she could "see" the kids watching her from the audience in tv "tv land". I lived in the Southern California area as well. Do you remember Sheriff John?
Subject: Re: Remember "Hobo Kelly" ????
I grew up in the San Fernando Valley (California) on Feb 9th of '71 I was soooo mad they pre-empted HoboKelly for news coverage of the EarthQuake.... Ahhhh to be that age again & not have to worry about every day things

OK, now this takes me WAY back!
Hobo Kelly was mostly a LA thing, but I think her show was syndicated nationwide as well.
If I remember right, her show was on KTTV 11 (the original FOX station) and KCOP 13 in Los Angeles in the late 60's till the early 70's. I remember that around 72 or so she was the Marshall of the Hollywood Christmas Parade.
There was another kid's show host that was just as popular at the time, "Sheriff John".
This was when every station had a kid's cartoon show with a live host, and a studio audience. But that is a thing of the past now, sad to say. I often wish somebody would bring that format back.
Well, Weird Al did try it in his movie UHF, with Michael Richard's as the host.
(Trivia: Michael Richard's was a long time fan of Sheriff John,
as was Weird Al.
