Subject: Galactica's Lauching/Landing Bays
I've always wondered about the launching/landing bays on the Battlestar Galactica. How do they keep the air in? We know there's oxygen and gravity in there; people can breathe. People don't get sucked out into space. Fire can exist in there. If a force field holds the environment in place, how can ships take off and land? There have been times when Cylons have crashed their ships into the bays. I guess the only explanation is they have a force field that affects only the environment, not the ships. Why don't they explain these things?

The science aspect of Battlestar Galactica was practically absent. Explaining it would have taken up too much screen time. Interesting that you mentioned this however. The same thing happens in 'Star Wars'. The spacecraft dock in the Death Star is open to space, as well, and everyone just walks about in there without any problem.

(not knowing why) the 80's weren't all that...anyway we all know in space theres no sound ..so as far as the *sheioo sheioooo* sounds the vipers make thats impossible..unless...its set in a time and place that our collective minds are unaware of...it could be...i think its a vacuum in the launch bay,(i'm such a geek) ::)

You're right. There's no sound in space because there's no air. So you wouldn't hear Vipers whooshing, lasers blasting or explosions. But it wouldn't be very dramatic, now, would it?
;D

If there is no air and no explosions, how are we able to see the sun burning all the time? http://www.click-smilie.de/sammlung/cool/cool018.gif

You're just being silly, aren't you? :) The sun is one continuous nuclear reaction. And I never said there wouldn't be any explosions, just that you wouldn't be able to hear them. :)
