Subject: No One I Ever Met Remembered -The Cereal Character
...From Kellogg's Corn Pops in the late 70's:
"Big Yella"
(1977 to 1979)
Big Yella was a blond-haired cowboy with a big yellow cowboy hat.
I guess, not many of those people ever cared, focused or realized what characters were portrayed on their cereal boxes.
That has to be the only explanation.
I can't be the only person in the world who is this appreciative of the "breakfast cereal box visuals"!!! :o
Well...
I am not, fortunately.
The "Big Yella Society", organized in 1999, is working to get Big Yella back on boxes of Kellogg's Corn Pops.
http://www.lavasurfer.com/oldyella.gif I really enjoy these tidbits of nostalgia. :)

I rember Bill Yella,
What's your feeling towards Toucan Sam, Tony the Tiger, the Quisp Martian, Count Chokula, Lucky the Leprocan, and the Sugar Bear?
Hell, some of these may still be around, I eat Specail K or wheaties.
Subject: Re: No One I Ever Met Remembered -The Cereal Chara
Tony The Tiger, yes. And I believe Count Chocula too... someone will have to back me up with Americanial knowledge.
Subject: Re: No One I Ever Met Remembered -The Cereal Chara
Darn, I'll pick me up some of that Count Chokula if it's still around. TASTY!

You have to say that the 70's was the greatest decade for breakfast cereals marketed to kids. There was new stuff coming out all the time and all of it so bad, yet so mmm good. Fortunatley a lot of it was "fortified with essential vitamins and minerals."

That's where I saw them, too. I had to buy one of each. My daughter just loved them.
Subject: Re: No One I Ever Met Remembered -The Cereal Chara
Hairspray, I used to eat that cereal on a pretty regular basis until they discontinued it..
then I moved onto the monster cereals.. they used to have really cool stickers (I remember a transparent one I loved)
Subject: Re: No One I Ever Met Remembered -The Cereal Chara
I remember Kellogg's Corn Pops. They tasted awful. I didn't know it had been discontinued, though...

Kellogg's Corn Pops is still around, actually! :D
Last I checked though, Corn Pops are mascot free. Their advertisements are based around the “Gotta have my Pops” catch phrase. Boring.

I still eat Corn Pops. I agree with you...the "Gotta have my Pops" is not the best slogan.
Subject: Re: No One I Ever Met Remembered -The Cereal Chara
It's too '"now" I hate that paraphrasing of a sentence to sound cool that is so popular with advertisers to sell to the young crowd, like gotta have my Dew and Kentucky Fried Chicken is now only KFC.

I enjoyed eating Cookie Crisp cereal.I wonder whatever became of the cookie crook and the cookie cop in those commercials? -howard-

There were originally three characters. The crook wore a red hat with a chocolate chip cookie design and was otherwise dressed as your stereotypical burglar. He and his dog, Chip the Cookie Hound, tried to steal Cookie Crisp and were always caught by the Cookie Crisp Cop, named Officer Krum.
After General Mills bought Cookie Crisp from Ralston in 1997, they subsequently killed off the cookie crook and Officer Krum.
*Note: It was General Mills and Saatchi and Saatchi Advertising (Gen Mills ad agency) that named the cookie cop Officer Krum in one commerical they did in 1998. Ralston didn't give him a name.
Chip, the cookie crisp hound, survived. Chip and his signature howl 'Coooooooookie Crisp' should be around for generations to come.

Wasn't there two flavors of Cookie Crisp..I only remembered seeing chocolate chip lately but I thought there was a sugar cookie flavor as well.

There were 3 flavors total:
Chocolate Chip Cookie Crisp
Vanilla Cookie Crisp
Oatmeal Cookie Crisp
The latter 2 were gone by the early 1980's. :-/
Subject: Re: No One I Ever Met Remembered -The Cereal Chara
They also made "Oreo" cookie cereals as well that failed and it went bye-bye. But who would want to eat a cookie cereal? But, you can buy a bag of cookies and pour on milk on em'. Tastes the same anyway. ;D :) -howard-
Subject: Re: No One I Ever Met Remembered -The Cereal Chara
I remember that character, but not any name. (Typical of me - I can recall faces but names blow right by me!)
I loved Sugar Pops - but then I like a lot of - eh - kid's cereals. 1 of my faves is Capn Crunch Peanut Butter; others include Capn Crunch Crunch Berries, Fruit Loops, Lucky Charms, lots of fruity stuff. Used to like BooBerry but I haven't seen that in ages. I don't like those cookie-type things much, though. Like most cereals, they're airy rather than substantial - and that just doesn't fly w/cookies. But then, I'm not into chocolatey cereals, either. Bleeech...

I haven't seen The Trix Rabbit on television in a long time.I wonder whatever became of him and why did they stop advertising his cereal? IMO,the kids were stubborn. They should've let the rabbit eat his own cereal. It's not fair.bad guys always lose.
Howard ;D
