Well, Born2Late, it's like this....

Firstly, I could just as easily have chosen the name Born Too Late for myself, as I am the youngest of 4, and they always seemed to be having all the fun.

But this is what I think of, when I think of my time as a teenager in the 70's.

Fireworks - before our State Premier did the big 'bah humbug' and banned it for safety reasons  >:(Leaving the front door of the house hooked open while I went up the shop with no-one else homeNo Graffiti - NONE  :oGoing to the shop and buying cigarettes for my mum, and no-one thought you were doing anything but buying them for your mum (in my case, I was !)The Music  ;DBeing able to leave my bike in the front yard without fear of it being stolenVirtual lack of random crimeNo seat belts !No electric trainsNo air conditioning - anywhere (and I live in a sub-tropical area... :()Dirt Roads

I hope that was the sort of thing you were looking for !

I remember going on vacations and the roads nor the places we went were NEARLY as crowded as today. Seemed like the overall attitude in general was much more "laid back". Maybe its just my hazy (and we won't get into why that is)  8) ??? memory, but we weren't as tense and uptight as people today. You may think thats because of world situations but we had our crisises (is that a word?).(Viet Nam, racial tensions, gas prices, etc.) I'm a frustrated rock-star so, like Fussy, the music was a big part of my teenage years too. Also we had no idea of the dangers of drugs either. They were just an accepted part of our society, which was extremely naive, but thats the way it was.Everyone thought "I'll party 'til I puke. I'm young, I can take it or leave it" WRONG!! and for some,DEAD WRONG. Overall though I mostly have great memorys of that time.PEACE

;D Great topic. I wasn't a teenager until 79-80 but that's o.k. I have great memories of the 70's. I grew up in Northeast Philly in a section called Mayfair. I had great parents and great friends. Really no complaints. In the seventies growing up we played every sport there is including step ball, wall ball, wire ball, a*s ball, wiffle ball (Still play wiffle) manhunt, hide the belt. I'm getting depressed writing this stuff. I miss it that much. Any how, it was great. in the 70's I got into music. Hung out with my older brother and his friends. We rode bikes, hung out listening to rock and roll. We would go up to Pennypack park were there was a stage set up for local rock bands to play.  We would go swimming in the creek or one of the city pools. One thing I will never forget is when we started smoking we would hide our cigarettes in the drain holes of our front wall. All along not knowing that my dad's friend across the street would see us do it. One day we see him and he called us (the old hole in the wall gang). For the longest time we couldn't figure out what he was talking about.

Hey,  wasn't a teenager till late 70's but I loved the whole decade.

Donny Osmond caps
Men not swearing in front of women and children
Scooters
tartan scarves round wrists of Bay City Roller Fans (yuk!)
Flared and Bell-bottomed jeans
Blokes with long hair (hooray!)
Brown was a fashionable colour
Brummies-wide flared 'Northern Soul' trousers with pockets on the knees and very high waistbands
Kids had respect for adults
Discoteques-not nightclubs
Boutiques-not clothes shops
Chopper bikes

Ah yes! I remember it well!  8)

I remeber the roads were not as full but there was much more litter on them.  The cars were really big and ugly.  Seat belts wern't in use much and of course the cars were very stiff steel so accidents were horrific too.
Clothing was awful, high waisted and wide leg. I remeber walking on a wet day and my pants would suck up 5 lbs of moisture.  Hair was worn long or feathered, want a good laugh, check out someones year book during that era.
Music was pretty much listener friendly pap, nothing innovative or challinging until punk hit in the latter half.
I have to admit I don't miss the '70s much, I did enjoy being able to run about without supervision when I was a kid but that's about it.

In all honesty the parties my friends and I had were alchohol and drug infested frenzies. It was a great time. I thank God me and my friends survived and even became good decent people.

I had an older sister and she was a party girl, used to drag me along or let me participate when they were at our house.  The clearest thing I remember was the music was a lot of gothic type rock and there was always a bong or two being passed around. 8)

Well, I was born in the mid-70's but I do remember some things..like my mother making me wear Grranimals and my brother wearing Toughskins jeans....I always thought it was funny when my mother was listening to hear 8-track player while driving her 1974 Ford Pinto (metallic blue) and she was really getting into the song and then all of a sudden you hear CLICK! right in the middle of the track.
My older brother always had the latest records, Rod Stewart, Queen, Cat Stevens so even though I was only 6 at the end of the 70s I remember a lot of music because he was always playing the coolest tunes of the day.

I was a teenager in the mid 70's and it was great.  First it was alot of hanging out with friends getting high,  just pot, and you knew what u were getting, drinking and blasting the ac-dc.  Then disco came out and we went to the clubs and partied and danced.  Then a year later disco wasnt cool anymore so back to rock.  We had some great parties and listened to ac-dc and areosmith who is still my favorite!
