Subject: Henry Gross
I just thought I'd share with you that I just found out from henrygross.com that he was a founding member of Sha-Na-Na...I had no idea....I only know him for his testicle-clenching song Shannon....I thought Jon "Bowser" Bowman was the only famous member of Sha-Na-Na....and here I claim to be a HUGE Grease fan...sheesh.....

Testicle-clenching? :o Okay, being a woman, I have to ask -- is that a good thing or a bad thing? ::)
Can't figure out if you love the song or hate it. ???
I have to admit to liking it. It was out in the summer of '76 when I have my first real love. After we broke up I used to play the record over and over and cry.... :'(

Z, it's a term very much used by me and others in the world of singing falsetto, because of the pain it causes me and others.

TEXT :'(I heard the song "Shannon" was about his dog (Henry's) he lost...listen to the lyrics. I heard this back when it was released (1976).
Subject: Re: Henry Gross
I always assumed it was about a dog. What is interesting is that the song is responsible for the existance of so many people age 25-26 today named Shannon... :D Just after the song was out, my boyfriend's sister had a son and called him Shannon...

As for that high voice, I think Randy Meisner, former Eagle, could give him a serious run for the money....check out the end of "Take It To The Limit". The Bee Gees and also Frankie Vali were quite "High" as well :D

You have possibly hit on my LEAST favorite 70's song.
That's very interesting though, about him being in Sha-Na-Na... I never knew that! I am reasonably fond of Sha-Na-Na...
I went to shanana.com and... SHO' NUFF!!
Quoting:Three of the early Sha Na Na guitarists attained some notoriety. Henry Gross wrote, sang and had a hit: Shannon...End Quote
Thanks for the info!

;D That is interesting information. I was not aware of that. However, I love that song. I have it in my collection of MP3's. A sad song but a good one. I find my self picturing what he had in his mind everytime I play that song.

8) I have "Shannon" on a K-tel Lp (actually 2 diff K-tels).
Did anyone else collect these albums (K-tel, Ronco, Adam Viii,...)? Is there a topic page on this? Just curious.
Was this (Shannon) Henry's only popular song (solo), a "One-Hit-Wonder?
