Ice crushers. We bought one from my mom's friend that was moving to Arizona. And if you pushed in the ice too far, your fingers would be diced too. It's not fun to find a finger in your Bloody Mary. (Sorry for that visual. ;D)

Here are some that may have been forgotten:

Camping.  It seems like in the 1970's almost every family had either a tent, a cabover camper, or a converted camper van.  We laughed at those that had motorhomes.

Waffle Stompers.  Those tan ankle-high leather boots, with "speed laces", and these white rubber souls with riffles in them.  Also "Deck Shoes", boating shoes with these little round suction cups on the bottom.

8mm and Super 8mm movie cameras.  Before camcorders, almost every family had one of these, and a projector so they could bore everybody to death with hours of home movies (no sound of course).

Roller Skating.  With the advent of urathane wheels, skating was given a new life, and became a craze again.

All these '70s fads, I tell you, throw in the distinct odor of marijuana smoke and a couple of Jethro Tull albums and I'm back in big sister's bedroom!  She had a mood ring, too!

Regarding the CB Radio: Did the fad precipitate Smokey and the Bandit, or vicey-versey?  There was also Convoy, and a Jonathan Demme flick called "Handle With Care," aka "Citizen's band," which is actually worth seeking out!

CB got so big that both my parents had them in their cars, and for a while the one store in our one-horse New Hampshire town was selling them.

VH1 missed hundreds of '70s mentionables on "I Love the '70s."  Years before people went gaga for the yellow message signs originating with "Baby on Board," there were the plastic hands.  It was a flat plastic hand-in-wave attached to a spring and a suction cup.  They came in many colors with various messages, such as "Ten-Four Good Buddy!," "Keep On Truckin,'" "I Am A Wild And Crazy Guy," "I'm Not A Dirty Old Man, I'm a Sexy Senior Citizen," etc. etc.  Problems arose when people mistook someone waving them into another lane and wrecked, and also people began breaking off some of the fingers, and you know...  Anyway, the Waving Hand vanished by 1982 and unlike other '70s novelty items, I have NEVER seen one since!

OTHER '70s FADS:
Magic 8-Balls
Primal Scream Therapy
Mutton chop side burns
Leisure suits
EST (my parents took it, sent me to the "Young person's training," the Horror, the Horror!)
Going to X-rated movies with your significant other because it's chic and hip.
Wishing it was still the '60s
Purses for men
Perms for men
Platform shoes for men
Other men for men
Hi-Fi (I mean being into it, and actually calling it Hi-Fi)
Avacados (part of California chic)
Naming pets and children after characters in Tolkein
Yeast (that is, mixing it with OJ and drinking it)
From the U.S. treasury: The Bicentennial quarter,
The Susan B. Anthony quarter, the two-dollar bill

I'll quit now, but I got more! ;D

I remember the '70s, but I never saw anybody in the flesh wearing earthshoes or a leisure suit.  I'm not saying folks DIDN'T wear them, but that they were more talked about than worn.  Maybe if we lived in California, rather than NH, I would have seen more of this fine apparel.  "Workboots" and "sweatshirts" were more in vogue in my neck of the woods.  It seems women wore more "turtleneck" sweaters then than they do nowadays.

I had the displeasure of seeing the earthshoes, leisure suits, too tight Haggar slacks for men, and ugly "cow neck"/turtlenecks on women..my parents actually wore this stuff!

Remember a lot of terrycloth too (why was it popular?..maybe they came in handy if you were sweaty ::) and the same with velour.
I also remember knee high white socks (the ones with two or three stripes at the top) and the running shorts with the stripe on the side, or three stripes if you had "Adidas" shorts to match your sneakers ::).

Also have haunting memories of everyone, I mean everyone wearing a visor of some type, with or without the green, yellow, red see-thru plastic. God I hated those things.. :P

I had a pair of Earth shoes and a mood ring (that was always black  :() I also used to wear hip huggers. My brother was really into CBs and he got my dad into it too. My brother would spend hours on the CB talking to people. Come to think of it, it was a chat room of the 70s. (You had your "Handle" just like you have your screen name-not much different huh?)

I also remember the black lights, lava lamps, orange shag carpeting (yuck), and water beds. Everything was just GROOVY!

So many bad memories mentioned. ;)
I don't have much to ad but I do recall "Slime" being a big hit.  That was the mucky stuff that came in a little plastic garbage can, later slime with worms was introduced.
Afro's with the big combs riding in the hair was common in the black scene.
Fondue was a hit for awhile as well.

I'm guessing around 1975-76 any type of mercandise related to the Bicentennial was quite popular too.

Also, anything with a smiley face on it - as a little kid I had this yellow plastic drinking cup with a smiley face.  :)

Oh yeah, you had your bicentennial this-that-and-the other thing.  The smiley face was everywhere except on all the neurotics going to EST and Primal Scream therapy.
Not understanding how things become valuable, dopes all over the country begain hording the bicentennial quarters.  They're still more rare than other '70s quarters, even as currency circulating from that time dwindles.
