Ditto! (I always wondered why my sister preferred The Dulltons Mad magazine called it] over Flip Wilson!)
Subject: Re: Royaly stupid shows of the 70's
I didn't like "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" either but I think I hated "The Gong Show" even more. And "Soap" started out funny but went downhill after awhile.
Peace,
A

The GONG SHOW! YIKES! I remember that one! And what about the old NEWLYWED GAME! Now what couple would want to have such embarressing questions asked to them on LIVE TV! LOL

I'm almost embarassed that I remembered that :-
Subject: Re: Royaly stupid shows of the 70's
Yeah, I think The Gong Show was a real low point in television programming (until someone came up with shows like Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire and Survivor and Fear Factor and...)
Subject: Re: Royaly stupid shows of the 70's
I love 'Fear Factor' and 'Survivor'... Did y'all see the season finale of 'Survivor' last night...Go Vecepia... ;)
Now, on the lines of totally stupid I think "The Donny And Marie Show" should have had a copyright for stupidity.
Oh yes, if you want to lose weight try to eat your meals during 'Fear Factor'....Yum-yum...nothing is more appetizing than watching people try to swallow pig bums and piggy uteruses. :)
Love,
A

And lest we all forget, the wonderful gem "The $1.98 Beauty Contest" with that annoying twit, Rip Taylor. Later!!!

LOL - we had pig uterus for dinner last night! (OK, Chinese people will eat any darn part of a pig ;D )
Subject: Re: Royaly stupid shows of the 70's
The Chinese also eat any part of a dog or cat, if there is no other meat there. (Koreans definitely eat dogs and cats, a fact not disputed by my late Korean mother.) ;)

I love watching old reruns of Adam 12 because I live in LA and they use the names of real streets but do impossible things with them, like saying the suspect is running east on Western (Western runs north/south) or "see the lady at the corner of Devonshire and Sunset" (both run the same direction and are 20 miles away from each other!) Or they will be in one part of LA, and then suddenly be somewhere else 30 miles away, after driving only a couple of blocks! ;D

Royaly stupid shows of the 70s? Well, ALL OF THEM! I know, there were a few good ones in there. But some of the really bad ones are (not in any order)
Brady Bunch
$1.98 Beauty Pagent
Blanski's Beauties (yes, I do remember that one)
Laverne & Shirley (after Shirley left)
There was a really bad game show called The Neighbors and if I am not mistaken, Regis Philbin hosted it (does anyone remember that one?)
I know there is more but I can't think of them right now. I should know that these were really bad shows (yes, I used to watch them-until I couldn't stomach them anymore)

;D ;DHave you ever stopped to think of just how many of the characters in "Little House"actually existed, either in the books or in real life?laura never had a brother named Albert, mary never got married, there never was a Nancy oleson! There were girls on the show with names like michele and stacy, which was very unlikely in the time frame of the show!People would appear on the show and the regulars would act like they've known them a long time, then they would never be heard from again!Just wondered if you were paying attention! And do you really think the real Nellie, who wasn't really Swedish, married a short,Jewish guy?Cheers!

This can be said for just about every show. The one that really gets me is Happy Days. Richie's older brother Chuck went off to college and was never seen nor heard of again. There was never any mention of him since that first season until the show ended. I wonder what he did so wrong that his entire family disowned him?

Perhaps he died...or moved to another country...or turned gay...or became a Hare Krishna...or helped found a group which later became known as Al-Qaeda. I don't think he was abducted by aliens, or Richie would have asked Mork to help find him.
Subject: Re: Royaly stupid shows of the 70's
One of the stupidest shows of the 70s...one of the worst shows of all time..."The Love Boat". (I respect Gavin McLeod, but I hated that show!)
Subject: Re: Royaly stupid shows of the 70's
i do remember $1.98 beauty pageant(thought it was stupid, they got a bouquet of carrots for the winner)
the gong show,(have to admit i actually watched it-for a laugh of course)
now tabitha i remember it didn't last very long wasn't tabitha played by a then newcomer lisa hartman(before clint black)
never watched blanskis beauties, hated by far MARY HARTMAN,MARY HARTMAN and SOAP couldn't even stomach them, dos anyone remember the other mary tyler moore spin-off phyllis(w/cloris leachman)?
i'll admit i loved the love boat, watched bananna splits all the time(i was just a kid then,oh oh chongo) in fact me and a friend of mine were just talking about the bananna splits just the other day, don't you just love nostalgia?

Subject: Re: Royaly stupid shows of the 70's
I remember this asinine comedy with Dorothy Louden called "Dorothy", in which the ex-Miss Hannigan from "Annie" worked at an All-Girls prep school (how original ::)) and sang every time one of the girls got in trouble. Dreadful
Other bad shows:
A Year at the Top (with a young Paul Shaffer and Greg Evigan)
Me and The Chimp
Vegas (sorry Urich fans)
Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice (Again apologies to Urich fans)
Any crime anthology series that didn't include Columbo or McCloud (Search, The Men)
Barnaby Jones (especially the Mark Shera eps)
And the overrated Lou Grant and Trapper John MD.
Subject: Re: Royaly stupid shows of the 70's
Planeta de los Semios (Planet of the Apes) stunk, lived in the Dominican Republic at the time and had to watch it in Spanish.
The Gong show made me sick, and the horrible little man, Chuck Barris, made me barf.
Subject: Re: Royaly stupid shows of the 70's
I actually liked "The Gong Show" when it was first shown. It was probably the only game show where everyone involved did exactly what they wanted. I also liked "Almost Anything Goes", the show where people from small towns competed on wacky competitions for prize money. Reality TV gone bananas.

Subject: Re: Royaly stupid shows of the 70's
I remember a British 70s sitcom called 'The Good life' (with Richard Briers and Felicity Kendall) and it was pants!
The plot of the whole thing was that Tom Good (the main character) gave up his commercial life to become an environmentalist, getting involved with farming. This situation was an antithesis of their next door neighbour who were capitalists basically. Note the fun that can be had from this situation (snore). . . :-/

This show called Medical center. I see episodes of ER and I look back on the old shows and I think god this is so fake.
