It depends on your idea of long-running. It lasted at least 4 years.

There was no "leading" actor per say. More like an ensemble cast.

I guess when 20 questions are asked and answered. But since a few contestants don't number their questions, I've lost count.

Subject: Re: 20 Questions: Television
No not "Soap". I did say it started in 1969, and "Soap" was way after that.
But since you people are having trouble, I give a few hints:
1) This series defined the word "dramedy" before it became chic in the 90s.
2) Think "Dead Poet's Society".
3) One of the actors is named after a holiday.

Well, I was thrown-off because I thought you meant earlier there was no element of comedy and threw-in Soap as a last-ditch effort, even if it was later in the times and comedic. Not a serious effort, but an effort nonetheless. ;D

There is very little comedy on this show that I know of.
Need any more hints?

Okay, here's another one. You may remember one of the stars from A Carroll O'Connor series that wasn't in the 70s.

Are you sure you're categorizing the show correctly?
"This series defined the word "dramedy" before it became chic in the 90s."
This quote of yours from the earlier post implies drama/comedy.
To be categorized as a "dramedy", it needs to have an equal balance of both, yet you say now that there is very little comedy on this show. http://www.clicksmilie.de/sammlung/fragend/fragend013.gif
Subject: Re: 20 Questions: Television
Okay, Hairspray. Here's my definition of a "dramedy": a half-hour series with both comedy and drama. For example: I would not define "Friends" as a dramedy even though it has equal parts of comedy and drama. But I would define "The Job" or "The Wonder Years" as dramedies because both are comic with serious overtones.
And no, I don't think "Soap" is a dramedy even though it has dramatic scenes.
But going by your definition, no it isn't.

Subject: Re: 20 Questions: Television
In an effort to educate myself, I searched for a definition and examples of "dramedy".
This way, I could fully understand:
A dramedy is the rarest and most serious type of sitcom; its entire being is not devoted to evoking laughter from the audience. Its emphasis is on thought, often presenting themes that are not humorous: war, death, crime, aging, unemployment, racism, sexism, etc. The humor is more comic intensification than an end in itself.
The themes are personified, showing the regular characters in conflict with the themes as they affect individuals, not as impersonal labels for intangible concepts. Often two factions are represented, either with two characters in direct conflict with each other, each representing a point of view on the theme, or characters in conflict with the intangible by observing the effects of it on others and attempting to aid them. ALL IN THE FAMILY and MAUDE are examples of the first, M*A*S*H, BARNEY MILLER and NIGHT COURT of the second.
Subject: Re: 20 Questions: Television
No, but close. It was 1974.

Subject: Re: 20 Questions: Television
Based on that definition, yes. It did make you think, although I don't remember anything funny that came out of it other that the 1/2 hour.
Maybe I should do some research on this term too, since it is a fairly recent one. :-/
