Subject: King's Island Before Paramount
Written By: Indy Gent on 05/04/02 at 01:16 a.m.
IMHO, the "Kings" amusement parks (King's Island, King's Dominion, Carowinds, etc.) were better when they were still owned by Hanna Barbera and not by the Paramount studios. King's Island is now even introducing another ride based on one of their flop movies and replaced the HB characters with stupid mascots. >:( Before this debacle, they were fun, large melting pots combining International flavor with family entertainment. Now all they are is a Hollywood side project like Warner Brothers Six Flags or Disney's Universal or MGM Grande. What do you remember about the theme parks you went to? And how have they changed for the better or the worst?

I LOVED King's Island. Went there every summer, just before school started in the late 70s/early 80s. One year we went late and ended up there on my b-day (Sept 20). I have pictures of me & my cousin with Barney Rubble & (MY FAVE) Hong Kong Phooey! ;D
Haven't been there since 83 or so. Sad to hear about the changes, but not suprised. I had heard about the Paramount deal, and figured all the HB characters were history. :'(
My cousin & I would ride the Racers back-to-back-to-back, alternating red & blue. When The Beast opened, the Racers line was almost non-existent, so it was easy. And I always thought it was cool that Ohio had an Eiffel Tower! (at 1/3 the size, but still...)

What was the one near Cincinatti? Or is it Cleveland? Nope, pretty sure it was Cincinnati...
Anyway, this was in the late 70's early 80's - I lost my glasses on the big roller coaster of the time...I am always destroying my glasses one way or another...I have cruddy luck with them...but that's another thread!
We have Six Flags Great America not too far from us...it was cool before Six Flags took over...but I do like all the Looney Tunes characters...more my personality than Hanna-Barbera (with the exception of Scooby-Doo, of course!)
