Subject: dances and dance moves of the 70's

Written By: KKSFred on 01/30/02 at 08:19 a.m.

:)I am looking for any dances and the steps on how to do the moves for a 70's school program that would be done with first, second and third grade students.  I have a few dances like the bus stop and the hustle but I don't remember how to do the dance.  I also need more than just those two dances, games, activities whatever about the 70's.  thanks

I believe there may have been a dance called the hot chocolate, just like the band of the same name.

Oops, it seems none of us have dance steps to offer as of yet.

Playing Twister was a popular passtime, as far as activities go.

Apologize for not providing the steps, figured everyone would know how to do the bump, anyway, it's easier to do than the Twist, ok here goes. Stand next to your partner, kind of at an angle where your left hip and tush are about 6 inchs from the right hip and butt of your partner.  Put your arms straight out and bend at the elbow at 90 degree angle so your hands are parrallel to your head.  Don't move your feet, but move your pelvis outward simultaneously with your partner (each in the opposite direction), as far out as each can go.  Now bring your hips and butts together with a BUMP :o and you got it!  If your partner is bigger and more powerful, his/her bump may send you flying accross the dance floor ;D!

Anyone remember a set of disco moves from about 1978 called the Helicopter? Whatever the dance step is called where you twirl your partner under your arm (done in Jitterbug, Swing, disco, etc), the Helicopter was a set of about 10 or more of these twirls using one or both arms in rapid succession. Very cool to watch (and do) especially when 13 year olds did it, looked like fast motion!
