Captivated by major new releases from Taylor Swift, Coldplay and Billie Eilish, music fans in the UK spent more on recorded music in 2024 than ever before, new figures show.

Streaming subscriptions and vinyl sales shot up, with consumers spending a total of £2.4 bn over the last 12 months.

That overtakes the previous high of £2.2bn, achieved at the peak of CD sales in 2001.

Jade Thirlwall, one of the girls of Little Mix, has released her 3rd solo single IT Girl.  It debuted at #44 in the UK.  I quite like this one!

Last year, an Australian DJ named Cyril emerged with a fantastic cover of the 1978 Chris Norman/Suzi Quatro hit Stumblin' In and his remix of the 2015 Disturbed cover of Simon and Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence, both which made the Top 20 on the US Dance chart.  His latest effort is a cover of the 2013 Paramore hit Still Into You.  I can't get enough of this one!

Subject: Tina Turner's lost Private Dancer song rediscovered

Written By: Philip Eno on 01/23/25 at 6:46 am

A song recorded for Tina Turner's blockbuster album Private Dancer, that was presumed lost, has been rediscovered and received its first play on BBC Radio 2.

Hot For You, Baby, was cut at Capitol Studios in Hollywood and originally intended to be an album track.

But it was ultimately jettisoned in favour of era-defining pop hits such What's Love Got To Do With It, Better Be Good To Me and the album's title track.

Presumed missing, the master tape was recently rediscovered as her record label compiled a 40th anniversary re-release of Private Dancer.

Last year, legendary British rock band The Cure released Songs of A Lost World, their first studio album in 16 years and they recently got BRIT award nominations for Best British Album of the year, Best British Group and Best Alternative/Rock act.  I don't know if they will win because they are up against some of today's top young artists, but it would be nice to see them win

2025 is gonna be a good year for Canadians as along with that new single by The Weeknd, Tate McRae has released her latest single Sports Car and it's already debuted at #8 in the UK.  This marks her 9th Top 40 hit in the UK, and pending it will chart in North America, it is set to become her 12th Top 40 hit in Canada and 5th Top 40 hit in the US.
