Yeah, I didn't believe a word of this and I stand with Lizzo. I ended up being right about Kevin Spacey after all. It's just a game of wait-and-see unless it's super obvious the allegations are BS.

Well here’s a theory I have, don’t know if it is really what happened or not.

Lizzo’s franchise is her, uh, generous weight. When I see photos of her act, the backup dancers are all to the heavy side, but not on the scale of Lizzo.

One of the complainants stated that when she showed up for rehearsal “with a noticeable weight gain”, Lizzo started in on her.

Perhaps Lizzo didn’t want a background dancer that had as much heft as her, taking away the attention. ???

Like I said, just a theory.

Another level to this that nobody is taking into consideration is that there is no rule that says a person of a certain "type" (a larger person for example)  can't use that as a slur against somebody else if they are so inclined. Of course, it immediately invites the response "look who's talking", or the now somewhat outdated "look at the pot calling the kettle black". But nonetheless, it is still done. I have seen African Americans and  LGBTQ people, for example, use slurs indicative of those demographics against other members of the demographic if they happen to be mad at them. This is different, of course, if they use those slurs when they are not mad at the person, where it then becomes an insider type term of endearment. Or in some case it then transcends into the mainstream to become a positive term, like "queer".  There are almost two generations now  that have grown up now not realizing "queer" was once a negative slur.

You may be onto something with this. In the 60s there were variety shows and the female guest star of the week, like a Diahann Carroll or a Barbara Eden,  would come out and do a big number wearing an elaborate sparkling evening gown. The backup dancers would have gowns of a similar style and color but not as elaborate. There could be no mistake who the star was. The Lizzo situation sounds like a modern version of that.  "The dancers may be big, bit I am bigger. I am the star". It's kind of a sad commentary on the perverse generation we now live in, but I'll say no more about that.

Indeed.  When I was a young kid, “queer” meant that something was wrong, was off, was inauthentic.

With sayings like “that’s as queer as a 3 dollar bill” (calling out what somebody is trying to pitch as being phony).

Or “that is what queered the deal”… noting that something undesirable happened that caused the speaker to not go through with a business agreement that had looked promising.  I still use that saying occasionally.  :-X
