Subject: Threads by IG

Written By: batfan2005 on 07/06/23 at 4:55 pm

Instagram has created a new child app called Threads, which has similar features as Twitter. Apparently a lot of former Twitter employees who got fired by Musk got hired at Meta and helped with the development, and now Elon wants to sue Zuckerberg.

I've thought about checking out the app but really I don't care for sharing my thoughts like on Twitter or the one feature I didn't care for on FB. I prefer sharing pics which is what the core IG is for, and now sharing jokes and memes are done more on IG Stories.

Threads is looking into adding an alternative home feed, of only posts, in chronological order, from the people each individual user follows, according to Instagram boss Adam Mosseri.

I barely use Instagram to post stuff.  I only use it to follow the lives of celebrities.
I once got voice actress Tara Strong to say hi to me in her Harley Quinn voice and when I commented on her video, she liked my comment.  My inner nerd was very excited lol

David Allen Green doesn't think that'll go anywhere: https://davidallengreen.com/2023/07/a-close-reading-of-twitters-legal-letter-to-meta-a-guided-tour-of-a-weak-litigation-letter/

It'll take off when the real news media take what's trending on Threads as news of itself: that's the main reason Twitter (er, the X formerly known as Twitter) got the traction it did, because theoretically serious news organizations started treating Twitter trends (or if it was a slow news day, something somebody retweeted) as though they were important, journalists had to be on Twitter to see which way the wind was blowing. When those people decide a different platform is more indicative of popular thought, Twitter will be dead. It will be an ex-X.

Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg says its new social media platform, Threads, has lost more than half its users. The Twitter rival rocketed to more than 100 million users within five days of its launch earlier this month. But Mr Zuckerberg has acknowledged those numbers have now tumbled.

I finally gave in and signed up for it, and it mostly seems like a redundancy with IG, only with more words than pictures. Some of the accounts such as news pages and sports teams, it might be more ideal to follow on Threads instead of regular IG if not both.

That’s brutal. I wonder if those were “fake accounts” for which Threads has a bot to detect and delete them? ???

The article I was reading made it sound like it was active users: they've not quit, but haven't bothered using Threads - which isn't that surprising, if nothing (or not much) of interest is being posted, it won't take long for people to look somewhere else for their fix. Not terminal for Threads, but highlights what critical mass looks like: 100m sign-ups ain't more than a molehill against the mountain that is the X-isting no.1
