Pat Sajak who has hosted Wheel of Fortune for 40 years, announced that the upcoming season starting this fall will be his last.

Just saw a story about this on my FB feed earlier today. Wishing him well.
I mean, he was the emcee for a mighty long time, and that's quite an accomplishment. He definitely ranks up there with longtime hosts of the same game show (or longtime gameshow hosts in general).

Mayim could keep both gigs. She's a neuroscientist.

I joked that Joey Lawrence could host. ;D
I've brainstormed hosts I'd like to see, however unlikely. Marc Summers, Bob Barker (He's 99!), Kirk Fogg, LeVar Burton. But I'm sure Sony will pick a safer choice such as Mario Lopez or Ryan Seacrest. Or maybe a fresh face.
40 years is a lifetime. He even outlasted Alex.

Actually, Mayim and Ken are sharing the hosting duties of Jeopardy. One of them will host for a handful of weeks, then the other will do so.

I think she's doing a fine job as the lead host on there.
She does have some game show experience, however: during the most recent run of the Hollywood Squares (hosted by Tom Bergeron), she was the panelist at the center square just about the whole run.

Not quite. That was the version that John Davidson hosted. Whoopi wasn’t on that. Shadoe Stevens was the announcer, and sometimes he would sit in the center square (in which case he had double duty and would introduce himself last).
The Tom Bergeron version of Hollywood Squares (which always had Whoopi in the center square) began in 1998 and ended circa 2004. Regular celebrities on that one included Bruce Vilanch, Caroline Rhea, and the late Gilbert Gottfried.

Probably won't happen. Ellen "The Queen of Mean" DeGeneres is box office poison right now. It may not last, but it's still too soon from all the allegations of her nastiness to staff and guests behind the scenes of her now-cancelled show.

It seems like most game show hosts today (with the exceptions of Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik, who IMO are doing a great job on Jeopardy!) are former stand-up comedians, whereas most of the old-school game show hosts from the 1960's and 70's started their careers as radio broadcasters/disk jockeys and perhaps weathermen, and they always came off as being a bit more polished and professional.
Perhaps this may be a bit out of left field and I'm sure that the odds of him actually doing it are probably zero, but I can imagine Anderson Cooper being a good host of Wheel Of Fortune. :o

December of this year will mark his 42nd year as Wheel just. The one that"s currently on air is the syndicated version which has aired nightly since 1983. Pat officially became Wheel host for the daytime version, replacing Chuck Woolery in December 1981

She’s holding out for more bucks. I saw an article yesterday that she will not come back unless she gets at least half of what Sajak was making. Pat was making $15,000,000 per year, while Vanna was only getting $3,000,000.
Perhaps they could get Megan Markle to take the job and revive her game show career.

They could do away both with Vanna’s job, and Seacrest too.
Just use automation to flip the letters, and have an AI program ask the questions and come up with some banter.

But if ratings fall, the new host could get canned like Ray Combs was after he replaced Richard Dawson from Family Feud. Which could pave the way for Pat to come back.

However, Family Feud didn’t run continuously like Wheel has for the past four decades. The original Feud with Dawson as host ended in 1985; the next incarnation of the show with Combs as host began in 1988. And when Dawson returned as host in 1994, that version didn’t last much longer and was terminated the following year. The Feud didn’t come back again until 1999, with Louie Anderson as emcee; the show has been in continuous production since then, with three additional hosts since then.
IOW, the Feud was on hiatus from 1985-1988 and again from 1995-1999. Wheel has run continuously since Pat Sajak became the host.

I remember watching it during the Richard Karn (Home Improvement) era, and it had a different theme music. I didn't know about John O'Hurley. Steve Harvey is more well known as he's been hosting since 2010, and the tune is back to the one during the Richard Dawson and Ray Combs era.
