Subject: 2024 predictions

Written By: batfan2005 on 05/13/22 at 1:23 pm

There's a thread for 2023 and 2025, but not sure about 2024. Believe or not it's only about a year and a half away. Here are my predictions:

- The Summer Olympics will be held in Paris on schedule. I don't forsee the pandemic delaying it like the 2020 one

- The COVID-19 virus will still be around in some form, but in endemic status and will be barely mentioned

- The economy will be in a recession, from 2023 if not late 2022

- It will be a presidential election year, so it will be brutal on social media and interpersonally. It won't be Trump or Biden running, so we'll be seeing fresh new faces. Probably Ron DeSantis will be the GOP nominee. It will be the first Gen X president even though Barack Obama was close (late Boomer).

- It will be a good year for music, like 2020. A lot of new artists with creativity to make fun and upbeat dance music. Late 2000's nostalgia will be in effect, with the likes of early Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.

Can't believe it is now less than three months. Most of my predictions still stand. Only with the elections it looks like it will be Trump vs Biden and RFK Jr might have the biggest 3rd party turnout since Ross Perot in 1992. Also going into the year it looks like there will be two major wars continuing, Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Hamas.

I can't believe we are now only a month away from 2024.

One prediction is the classy/elegant style fashion which has already started to come back in the fall will continue to surge over the winter/early spring months. At least in the US since in Europe it's never really gone out of style. I also think in music there will be more dance/EDM that samples 90's and Y2K Eurodance hits.

It's actually not hard to believe 2024 is a month away because we are in December which is the last month of the year, and December arrived after the eleven previous months, all of which lasted exactly as long as they always do. It's the way we measure time even though technically time is not linear. Einstein, for one, proved that.

I'm not sure what the "elegant" style you speak of consists of, but I'm all for it if men FINALLY stop wearing baggy shorts for all occasions, all year round. Likewise for sweatpants and flip flops for public occasions. They must go. And while we're at it, let's FINALLY get rid of baseball caps. Except for the sport of baseball. I wouldn't mind seeing the end of hoodies either. So tired and cliched.

It's like a mix of flying by but feeling long at the same time, if that makes any sense. In some ways it feels like 2023 barely started and it was just last Christmas, but at the same time my trip to Europe in the summer feels like a distant memory. Around the holidays though everything runs together and Christmas tends to sneak up on you, especially if you're a procrastinator in doing your Christmas shopping.

As for the classy/elegant style, I think of Gossip Girl or Katy Perry as examples of when that style was in around the turn of the late 2000's/early 2010's, or the characters on Friends back in the 90's.

Do you think 2024 will turn out horribly?

I hope not, I hope for the best. There will be the usual natural disasters (climate or geological), mass shootings, celebrity deaths, and likely both wars continuing, plus it's a presidential election year so that comes with all the drama like in 2020 and 2016. In my personal life, as long as everyone in my family and ones close to me survive and stay in good health that's all I can ask for. I'm also hoping for some travel plans, and a job change would be bonus points. I'm also hoping for the pop-culture to be fun and upbeat at least.

Yeah, and even if/when it is conclusively proven that there is Russian meddling, that the majority of retweets of Trump's posts are by Russian bot farms, who also create and magnify huge numbers of untruths... even when all this is shown to be Russian meddling, millions of Trump's cultists will believe every idiotic made-up detail. I think so too especially since he's been in hospice care and without Rosalynn. It's just a matter of if he'll make it to his 100th birthday on Oct 1. It's just that feeling of how it can be any day now. The nation (and even world) will be in mourning, but at least he'll be in a better place back with Rosalynn.

I don’t think she would at this point.

I think you're probably right - I figure she must probably be feeling the same sort of thing as Rory Stewart on being beaten by Boris Johnson to the Conservative Party leadership: it's one thing to lose, but to lose to someone so very obviously unsuited to the role is "like your partner leaving you for someone you despise"

At least over here Boris is very unlikely to make a comeback; listening to Trump speaking, I find it deeply weird and discombobulating that anyone takes him seriously as a presidential candidate, let alone millions. It doesn't help that there are so many spineless jellyfish in the GOP Congress who know damn well another Trump presidency would be a catastrophic mess yet are too scared to speak out.

And gotta love the hypocrisy that argued during the second impeachment trial that there are laws and a justice system to deal with criminal behaviour and voted not to impeach, and are now saying that because Trump was cleared by Congress, the criminal charges should be thrown out.

But mainly: he is being such a whiny, pathetic little man at the moment, and talking such utter drivel. If anyone not-Trump were to complain endlessly about their completely self-inflicted travails, you can guarantee those who follow him so slavishly would be using words like "snowflake", and despising them. How the hell has someone so self-obsessed managed to gain such a huge cult-like following that they completely ignore his very evident mental failings?

I don't agree with you on this. I don't get to see performances of shows too often but I was lucky enough to see Wicked on stage in Tulsa about 6 years ago or so. Outstanding show. The previews I have seen doesn't do the show justice. Also, they are making this a two-parter. So they are turning about a two-hour show into two movies. Why? $$$$$. That is all it is. The people who are putting this together don't care about the show. They only care about the bottom line.

Most plays/musicals that are turned into movies suck. There are a few exceptions. (The Sound of Music comes to mind.) The best ones I have seen are filmed on stage so it is like you are watching the preference-like Hamilton.

I remember seeing Wicked with my first wife back in 2007 in LA. I think this one has potential to make a lot of $$$$, especially since it has Ariana Grande. But we'll see. Also as I was saying there wasn't much competition this year. Currently the top grossing movie of the year is Inside Out 2 according to https://www.boxofficemojo.com/year/world/ so I think that can be easily beat. Other potentials are Joker 2 and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

The Music Man was one of my childhood favorites. Also more recently the 2021 version of Westside Story did pretty well. Also Rent (2005) was pretty decent, as were Moulin Rouge and Chicago.

One of my all-time favorite movies. What made the movie great was that it had almost the entire original Broadway cast. The biggest cast replacement was Blythe Danner as Martha Jefferson replacing an unknown named Betty Buckley. Of course Betty Buckley went on to become a Broadway diva (and the step-mom on Eight is Enough). Paul Hecht was the original John Dickinson who was replaced by Donald Madden.

* Side note. Blythe Danner's stage debut was at a theatre that is near & dear to my heart where I did summer stock. She wasn't there when I was but she, along with Barbra Streisand, Dustin Hoffman, & many others-including myself are alumni.

He lost the popular vote in 2016. The only reason he won is because of our archaic electoral college (which really has to go). He also lost the popular vote in 2020. He has not pick up many new supporters. In fact he lost a lot of supporters. Dick Cheney is going to vote for Kamala. Dick Cheney!!! Yup, hell is freezing over. And there are many other Republicans who will vote for her. He will lose the popular vote again.

Can he still win? Yes, because of the electoral college again. But I think there are going to be a lot Republicans who will vote for Kamala whether they say so or not. No one has to see who you vote for when you are in the voting booth.

Yes, that's what I meant.

In sport, the Dodgers may or may not win the World Series (or even get there).

On a related note, no team will win 100 games. (Unless the Dodgers or Phillies win at least 10 straight.)

The Picksburgh Pirates will place at the bottom of the NL-Central division.  :\'(

I work with a former member of the team, and he is quite dismayed. Despite the fact that after he left the Buccos, he scored a famous play that punched them out of the NLCS years ago. ;D

There might be one more attempt to try to assassinate Trump before the end of the year but will eventually fail.

I think a lot of people do. But with these assassination attempts there are a lot of conspiracies floating around about it like what's the real motive behind them, especially with the timing of them. The first one was right after Biden announced his withdrawal and Kamala announced running. The second one was right after the debate.

I think it might happen again, I don't know if my predictions will come true but someone out there wants Trump dead.  :o

They will definitely finish with a losing record. This I know because they already have 82 losses.

This officially came true yesterday, as both the Dodgers and Phillies were handed their 63rd losses.

Back in July when Biden withdrew and Kamala stepped in it looked like she will win, but since then the hype for her wore off and the gap closed between her and Trump. It's pretty much a tie in the critical battleground states, especially Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina is close.

Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania are the key states that Biden flipped back into his favor; Kamala needs to keep them blue.

I do NOT want Donny becoming the next Grovel Cleveland. I hope enough people vote against him. I’ve already voted and sent in my ballot.

More garbage than the island of Puerto Rico.

He also recently made a comment about Liz Cheney about how she should have guns pointed at her and shooting so she can feel what it's like to be in a war. This is the daughter of a former vice president who was then considered a hardcore Republican but is now considered a RINO.

I predict that Russia will launch massive campaigns on social media with it's troll farms to support the election of Trump.
It must be Putin's main goal to assure that Trump becomes the new president as this would most likely help him massively in Ukraine.
In a way Elor had predicted on Trump back on January 1st of this year.

Another annual inthe00's tradition, seeing how our predictions went.

There's a thread for 2023 and 2025, but not sure about 2024. Believe or not it's only about a year and a half away. Here are my predictions:

- The Summer Olympics will be held in Paris on schedule. I don't forsee the pandemic delaying it like the 2020 one yes

- The COVID-19 virus will still be around in some form, but in endemic status and will be barely mentioned pretty much except for the summer surge

- The economy will be in a recession, from 2023 if not late 2022 no, didn't happen officially but the economy wasn't that great either

I was half wrong, and for awhile fully wrong. There is a first millennial VP however.

- It will be a good year for music, like 2020. A lot of new artists with creativity to make fun and upbeat dance music. Late 2000's nostalgia will be in effect, with the likes of early Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. This turned out to be correct, subjectively speaking of course. Katy Perry did make somewhat of a comeback even though her lead single was flop. Lady Gaga also made a comeback, as well as Ke$ha. Also mentioned in a later post about the late 2000's fashion making a comeback and it did.

Trump not only didn't go to jail, but also got re-elected as president.

Also Jimmy Carter made it to his 100th birthday, and he only has three more days to make it through the end of the year.

I think they pretty much stopped mentioning it but only if there's a surge in viruses.

It’s not as bad as it was in the beginning. (Also you quoted improperly again.)

Not sure if it is a prediction thread:

That one simply has the year number in the title. I say we should start an official “predictions” thread (or rename the aforementioned one by putting in the word Predictions). Just a thought.
