To be fair, most people get more nerdy and intellectual in their 30s and 40s, reading more books and getting into history and such. It's just that more stereotypically childish nerd stuff like video games and comics have become more accepted in the last decade.

My dad is the same. He'd been into literature and the Civil War throughout his 30s but now he's into anime and sci-fi.

You nailed it, but the question is still "why"? WHY have stereotypically childish things become acceptable for people of Millennial age?  What are the sociological reasons for this "delayed adulthood", if it does indeed exist?
