Subject: Anyone else feel we are very removed from the 2010s even in 2021?

I personally feel like I'm in a brand new decade and when I think of memories from 2019 it almost feels otherworldly. The pandemic has really caused a massive shift that feels we jumped decades really quick.

IMO it feels like 2019 but with the pandemic and lockdowns tacked onto it.

I felt like we were removed from the 2010's even in 2020 (since March), but even more so in 2021. In fact, I feel that we're removed from 2020 even though nothing has really changed (except for a new president). That could be one factor but also people are just used to the life during the pandemic so it's not so much of a shock now.

In some ways yes, like I'm noticing 2000s nostalgia being more of a thing. In other ways no, it kind of feels like 2019 w a pandemic like the above person said

If that’s the case then wouldn’t the early 2020s technically have started in 2019

It has pop culturally (The Mandalorian, '80s throwbacks in popular songs, new artist like Billie Eilish, etc.) That began late 2019. For everything else though, the 2020s began in March of 2020 when the pandemic hit. But we were in a transition period from 2019 up to March 2020, with the first Covid case being reported in late 2019 in China (hence the name COVID-19).
And for those who are bothered by the fact that early 2020s culture is too similar to 2010s culture, that is normal. Pop culture doesn't just change with a flip of a switch except in rare circumstances. If you want to see real changes in culture from the 2010s, wait until the mid 2020s or even late 2020s. The mid 2020s will start soon, I predict it will begin earlier than usual once the pandemic settles in 2022.
I do like how people say it feels like 2019 with the pandemic attached to it. It does feel like late 2019 with the pandemic attached to it making it quite different from the rest of the 2010s with the pandemic mixed in. Late 2019 was already different from normal late '10s culture like 2018 because we had The Mandalorian, which is the hottest and biggest TV show out right now, debut in 2019. We also had early 2020s classic hits like Blinding Lights and Don't Start Now release in late 2019 as well.

So are you calling it. The early 2020s began in 2019 when pop acts like Lil Nas X, Billie Ellish, Pop Smoke and the discovery of Covid-19(hence why it’s called 19) began in 2019.
I can’t believe that people haven’t realized that it’s always the Mid-Late part of a decade is where we start feeling far removed from the previous decade.

Covid-19 is entirely a 20s thing. It was technically created in 2019 but only in December and it was only in China and hardly talked about or even known of everywhere else.

That kinda what I meant.
The virus was discovered in 2019 and became a pandemic in 2020

I was talking about pop culture though the pandemic alone makes 2021 completely removed from the 2010s

The pandemic started in the 2020s but it was discovered in China during the very Late 2010s(2019)

So?
Just like 2009 felt removed from the 2000s, 2020 feels removed from the 2010s. 2019 - 2020 school year was a transitional period

I do think in the future when people look back they will choose 2020 as the year that the 2020s started though. But I do agree that 2020s trends started in 2019 and that's where the transition started as well.
