True. But I think we're getting closer to making futuristic fashion trends more a part of everyday wear. Like buying the clothing items at clothing stores. Instead of just being exclusively for fashion shows.

Right now the most futuristic fashion I'm seeing are the increased use of leggings, mostly on women but to some extent on men too.
Because of leggings being largely made out of synthetic material, combined with the mentality of recent decades, I don't know how long this trend is going to last.

I don’t agree that it would be absolutely no different. It would be WAY worse. Currently if something bad happens, unless it’s a serious collision, it’s for the most part an inconvenience. You call road service or you drive away. In the air, even a simple stalling out will send you crashing to the ground, hurting or killing yourself and others, destroying your vehicle and property. Even new cars off the lot have problems. And stuff happens. The air is not a good place to find out you got a tank of bad fuel or a mouse chewed a wire. So many things.

If airplanes were built to the same safety standards as cars, they would be so heavy they would never get off the ground. Planes require a ton of inspections and maintenance to remain safe enough to use. Also the cost of use, the amount of fuel required to both lift and travel is a lot more. And so many people can’t even move in 2 dimensions without being distracted and crashing. Adding a third dimension would be a disaster.

I was always more enamoured by "gaiatopia" type visions of the future. It's more niche now but I think it will continue to gain more currency in a more climate-focused future.

It's a fashion style that focuses more on utility but doesn't completely ignore style (*cough* cargo shorts). It helps that face coverings were popular in techwear even before the pandemic; I believe the whole thing started off as an attempt to look like a futuristic ninja.
