In many other countries they would check a child’s temperature using a thermometer inserted anally. I know this method is used in China (from a research talk I went to, not personal experience), so it probably seems not unusual to them.

People like me and my mom who have slow bowels might take a week for infected poop to make its way to the butthole. Besides, why not just give a stool sample?

I guess in principle it’s better than being exposed to the infected person’s uncovered face. But I don’t think it’s an accurate option.

I had some sort of testing that was being done a few years ago, and the doc gave me one of those plastic stool sample bottles. Just for kicks I filled it all the way to the brim, packed it all down real tightly and then smoothed off the top before putting the cap back on.

Wish I coulda been there when the test lab opened that thing up.  ;D ;D

Only makes sense if you can detect meaningful levels of the virus in your ear.
