Subject: 2022 predictions
Written By: batfan2005 on 12/27/20 at 8:23 am
Is it still too early? Now 2022 is only 12 months and a few days away. There has been some talk including on here that that's when things will get back to normal, at least somewhat like the pre-Corona days. The delayed 2021 movie releases such as The Batman and Jurassic World 3 will do well in the box office, but many will still opt for streaming. I also predict that the economy might dip into another recession and there will be some backlash against Biden, and the Trump supporters are going to be like "I told you so!"

It's become hard to predict things ever since the events of 2020 threw us off. Even 2021 to me remains a mystery, let alone 2022. Normally I would put a list of predictions even for 2025 or 2030 but because there is so much uncertainty in the air and we are living in very strange times I can't really predict anything because who knows what is in store for us this decade. Maybe something even worse than the virus will come. It feels like we're on the brink of something. Some big event will happen or civil war or world war may come, I just don't know for sure, I'll have to see how 2021 plays out first.

It just occurs to me that once we are pretty much fully OUT of the pandemic there will be multitudes of movies and TV shows looking back that take place DURING the pandemic. People wearing masks (presuming we STOP wearing masks at some point), social distancing, etc. I'm not talking documentaries, I'm talking scripted shows with actors and plots which will have all the trappings of 2020. Shows that take place "during the pandemic". In a short four or five years there will be kids who are too young right now who will watch these new shows and say "so that's what it was like", just like people do with September 11, which I can remember like it was this morning though there are people on this very site who were not even born yet. If that's not an indication that we are in a specific era with a definitive culture I don't know what is.

Let us not predict 2022, please. The last time some people tried to predict 2020, they said it will be the best year but it was horrible. I also have something to search here for my paper works. My friend recommended this to me. He told me he saw interesting facts here. Anyways, I am looking forward to seeing an informative post here.

In 2022, even though the after effects of the pandemic will clearly be felt (the after effects will be felt the entire decade), the pandemic itself will be done. By summer 2022, the WHO will declare the world is not in a pandemic / state of emergency anymore. That is my prediction.
Another prediction, supersonic aircrafts will make a comeback in 2022.

I was hoping 2021 would shift for better. It seemed like it was during the first half and things were going back to normal, granted not the same as pre-pandemic. But with the Delta it turned out to be more of the same if not worse than 2020.

Now that tomorrow is 2022, we have a better idea what the year might be like.
- COVID/Omicron wave will continue at least for the first few months, then the pandemic will either end completely or the virus will be reduced to a point where it's no longer life threatening like the flu virus
- The mid-term elections will be a red wave due to dissatisfaction with the Biden administration
- In pop-culture it will be a great year for movies as many titles that have been delayed from 2020 and 2021 will finally be released, such as The Batman and the Top Gun sequel. But for music it will be a bland year as most of the good albums dropped in 2020 and early 2021.

People seem to think that when the virus ends it will just stop cold. It doesn't really work that way. But the Omicron variant is a good sign of the virus waning, despite the fact the media is trying to make everybody hysterical and terrified of it. I predict there will be another variant even weaker than Omicron, and that the virus will show signs of petering out by the end of 2022. Although, as usual, there will be lingering remnants (and after effects) into 2023.

The very fact that a sequel to the jingoistic, rah-rah, Reagan-era "Top Gun" could exist in woke 2022 is an utter oxymoron.
A 2022, politically correct, woke, neutered "Top Gun" is going to be a sight to behold. A very unsuccessful sight to behold.

But it wasn't released then. If it's "rah rah jingoistic" like the original it will be a failure in today's woke climate. If it is woke and neutered like comedy and all things today, it will be a failure. There you go. The entire idea of remaking or sequel-ing "Top Gun" in the 21st Century is an epic fail.

What's called the left today, the woke left is surprisingly friendly towards institutions like the CIA and military, look at "Breadtube" figures like self-proclaimed socialist Vaush talk about wanting regime change in countries like Russia and China. CNN/msnbc is fake liberal but they have all these ex US intelligence figures on their shows all the time now.
Woke leftists turn a blind eye towards US foreign war atrocities and hypocritical sanctions(and wall street) in a way that would be unthinkable to a '60s era Vietnam war protester. They don't care about that stuff, they just want a diverse corporatocracy. The only recent exception was the protests against the Israel bombing campaign.
So a modern Top Gun could be very woke, positioning US "democracy" against the Russians or some crap while having a cis black female, white transwoman, ect. being the protagonists.

You DO have a valid point there. I still think the idea of "Top Gun" of any sort in the 21st century is idiotic, but in the bigger picture your points are valid. The fact that the so-called "left" today is NOT anti-war, anti-military, etc would be anathema to authentic 1960s liberals and leftists. It's just one of the things that I noticed has completely reversed in recent years. I have friends in my Boomer peer group who still consider themselves liberals in the old 60s RFK kind of way, as indeed I do myself. But, unlike me, they do not realize that they would NEVER be considered "liberals" by today's woke leftists and would likely even be considered right wing, or at least anti-woke.

Albums by Adele, Abba and Ed Sheeran helped vinyl sales in the UK top five million for the first time since 1991.
Almost a quarter of the albums bought this year (23%) were on vinyl, with Abba's Voyage the biggest-seller.
It marks the format's 14th consecutive year of growth, with sales up by 8% on 2020.
Sales of CDs continued to fall. Just 14 million discs were bought - the lowest figure since 1988, six years after the format was introduced in the UK.

The Queen will die. Charles might decide he's too old to be King and pass the baton to William.
Trump will go to prison. (He just got subpoenaed today.)
Vinyl will once again outsell CD's.
CD's will have an uptick in popularity.
Capitol Hill will increase security by Thursday as the anniversary approaches.
I want to also add Bob Barker, Dick Van Dyke and a few others that are in their 90's.

There will be another variant after Omicron but it won't be significant. I think the pandemic will end this year. But something bigger and even worse than the pandemic will come this year. I think we're on the verge of something big. Just not sure what it is yet.

I predict the Rams will beat the Bengals in the Superbowl, simply because it's in L.A. It will be close. I was hoping for it to be the 49ers vs. Bengals like back in '89. But more than the game I'm looking forward to the HT show, as it has performances from locals including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar (plus Eminem and MJB). I also look forward to the commercials as well.

These are worst case scenario predictions but could make 2022 a baaaad year:
- The Russia invasion of Ukraine escalates to WWIII. The invasion alone is expected to have devastating consequences, including on US soil such as inflation and more supply shortages
- The housing bubble could burst and create an economic disaster even worse than the Late 2000's
- A new COVID variant that's more deadly AND more transmissible than Omicron
I predict the Rams will beat the Bengals in the Superbowl, simply because it's in L.A. It will be close. I was hoping for it to be the 49ers vs. Bengals like back in '89. Looks like I called that right, including the close part. What I didn't see were surprise appearances by 50 Cent and Eminem. The commercials were disappointing as well, too many crypto/investment ones. I liked the one with Zendaya (Squarespace), Lindsay Lohan (Planet Fitness), the Lays one with Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd, the GM one with Dr. Evil, and a few others.

Yeah, but your post makes me think. At some point, some way, those two will come together an have some big, nationally televised huggy huggy, tearful reconciliation, with each telling their side of the story. Likely hosted by Oprah, who is the queen of this type of thing. Sadly, this will not be in the spirit of true brotherhood, but rather a crass cash-in for money and publicity, and to get Will Smith back in the "good graces" of people. It will really be crassly commercial and cynical. Not unlike when old arch enemies Timothy Leary and G Gordon Liddy came together to do a lecture tour in the 80s. Though I don't expect anybody under 50 to recognize those names.

Here are some predictions:
Norman Lear may or may not make it to 100.
You called that one, only not about Charles.
Here were mine:
Top Gun: Maverick turned out to be the top grossing movie of the year, unless Avatar 2 beats it, or Wakanda Forever (less likely). Turned out there wasn't much competition either.
Looks like I like many were wrong about the red wave in the midterms.
