Subject: "Y2K" Fashion

What do you think of the big early-mid 2000's fashion revival (dubbed "Y2K style") going on on Tumblr and Instagram? Apparently this is how Gen Z kids think we dressed:

It looks to be disproportionally on a tiny sample of girly kids media (Bratz, Mean Girls, Lizzie McGuire.) It also combines different 2000's styles (preppy, hip-hop) and eras (early and mid 2000's) in unique ways.

This is literally what all people do when they dress ā80sā.
They take the main points of all the various different fashions from a decade (which naturally contain elements from either end of the decade), and mash them together.

I remember the early to mid 2000's being a time of retro 80's.

I think it's so adorable when kids try to bring back old fads and fashion! I always say, let the kids have fun. Even if they can't quite get the look. However, I don't think they should dress that way all of the time or they will miss out on their own fashion culture. Nostalgia is good sometimes but it isn't healthy to live in the past everyday.

I've been noticing this more the past year. I think it's supposed to be an evolution of VSCO girl.

I recall those huge ass JNCO jeans, bleach blonde hair on boys, and metallic makeup on girls, but fashion was mostly pretty plain.

Lmao, this doesn't look anything like Y2K or the 2000s. If they want to capture the look they have to wear lowcut flares, not high-cut mom jeans. Their eyebrows need to be razor-thin, and the sunglasses need to be either rimless, square/rectangular framed, shield, or wraparounds. The only accurate part is the colors, but even then they are too saturated and bright. 2000s clothes and fashion were a modernized take on 70s and early 80s fashion, with a significant carryover from the late 90s. This doesn't look anything like that. Just goes to show how most Gen Z girls are completely clueless about the 2000s.
Here is what actual 2000s fashion looked like as demonstrated by Victoria Beckham:

Not a fan of them lumping the early 2000s with the rest of the 2000s, when the first few years of the 2000s are something I can hardly even remember.
That said, I've seen someone wear this today (link to image).

Juicy stuff was popular in the mid to late 00s I think. I remember a friend buying a pair of joggers in a sale thinking they would do for middle school, not realising it said Juicy in big letters on the butt. Definitely would have been against school rules at the time.
