Subject: Regal Cinemas Likely Suspending Operations at All U.S. Locations
Written By: Voiceofthe70s on 10/04/20 at 11:40 am
I predicted at the beginning that movie theaters would be one of the things that likely would not survive the pandemic. They were all on their last legs anyway.
Regal Cinemas Likely Suspending Operations at All U.S. Locations
The second-largest cinema chain in America is likely to close indefinitely all its U.S. locations, after reopening in August, according to a person familiar with the plans, escalating the pandemic-driven crisis faced by the entertainment industry.

Who needs to pay to see a film when just about everyone has Netflix.
You still have to pay for Netflix, and every film is not available there too!

When you don’t have high speed internet available.

Free, how did you arrange that? Someone has to pay to receive it on the long run.

With so many people staying home and working from home, I’d think one sector of the cinema industry that is probably booming are the porno websites. :-X

There is no free Netflix, save for a one month trial.

Unless it is applying for a new one month trial under a new name when the monthly trial has ran out?

Sounds about right. With the way people took months to receive benefits.

I don't think that would work. Netflix knows what TV they're sending it to. It may be that Howie is thinking of some other streaming service he has such as Tubi, which is always free (they run a handful of commercials to pay for it). I find I watch Tubi far more than Netflix. They have a far wider and more interesting selection, especially of slightly older programming.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has urged people to go back to cinemas, following news Cineworld is temporarily closing its UK and US venues, affecting 45,000 jobs. The prime minister said he would "encourage people to go out to the cinema, enjoy themselves and support" movie theatres. But his encouragement wasn't enough to stop the Odeon chain announcing it was reducing the hours of a quarter of its 120 cinemas to weekends only. Tim Richards, founder and chief executive of the Vue cinema chain, said there was "pent up demand like we haven't seen ever before" among customers to go out - but: "Our problem right now is we have no movies." A further delay to the release of the new James Bond film - announced on Friday - was "a big blow", he said.
At the moment I do not wish to be in an enclosed space with strangers.

Same here. I didn’t want to last year during flu season. I really don’t want to now.
Edit: fixed it

I did go to a cinema ("Onward") mid last month, and a few days I had normal flu.

The last thing i watched was "Nothing Is Truer than Truth", a feature length documentary about Edward de Vere, Seventeenth Earl of Oxford, who is pretty much the prime candidate, or at least one of the top candidates, for who actually wrote the works of Shakespeare.

I did have to wear a mask during the duration of the film I recently watched, the viewers are still allowed to eat their popcorn etc, but the mask must go back on when done. I made it easier for my to be only drinking water, and we eat something after the movie.

Yeah, you're right.
So are you paying for Netflix or do you just not have it? This is important to know, should we want to discuss things, especially since you were under the impression you had it. It's confusing I know, in this day of so many streaming and other type channels. A far cry from the days of three networks only!

Just read online...
Odeon is cutting the opening hours for some of its cinemas in the UK and Ireland to weekends only because of delays to new film releases. The chain, which operates 120 theatres, said it will affect a quarter of its cinemas, which will now open between Friday and Sunday. Odeon, which employs 5,500 people, declined to comment on job cuts. It comes as Cineworld said it will temporarily close its UK and US venues, affecting 45,000 jobs.
