It's official. Beethoven has been cancelled.

Excerpt:
"For some women, LGBTQ+ people, people of color — Beethoven’s symphony may be predominantly a reminder of classical music’s history of exclusion and elitism. "

"Let the name of Beethoven be stricken from every music book and record collection, stricken from all pylons and obelisks, stricken from every monument of classical music. Let the name of Beethoven be unheard and unspoken, erased from the memory of men for all time."

Mozart wrote music just to pay the rent, Beethoven composed music for the world to remember!

Why was it ever alive for you?

Can I claim back the money spent on tickets for Beethoven concerts?

Be careful, Philip. If it comes out that you're a Beethoven fan, you could get cancelled too. :o

Pretty sure the world remembers both of them!

What is this idiocy? Because nobility of the time attended concerts? He himself had a disability and was certainly not well to do, you'd think that would gain him points with the "woke" loonies. Geez!

The 5th was never my favorite. I always like the 6th. I can't help but think of Greek mythology when I hear the 6th-thanks to Fantasia.

The 6th Symphony was my parents favourite, especially, as above, the final movement the Shepherd's Song.

This is examination/criticism/interpretation...not canceling. You're really bad at telling the difference.

Whenever I see that clip, I can't help but think of the bit of classic Disney racism that has been conveniently expunged from all records of this very sequence.

Eh, classical music has always been the genre for nerds and stuffy people to me so I don't really care.

I’m admit I’m a bit of a music nerd so I like some classical. Mainly as music to put on in the background. Or fall asleep to.

I don’t care what color or background the people are. I don’t want to feel like I’m not good enough to listen or attend concerts. The elitist thing will turn me off every time.
That being said, most classical isn’t my thing anyway. It gives me bad dreams. The venues smell 100 years old.
Now if I could find some modern classical with say someone tearing it up on Hammond organ, I’d love to watch that.

I'm not a stuffy person and I can appreciate it because without it there'd be no metal music among other things.
