Subject: Goodbye 2020. Pfizer's vaccine appears to be working against UK's new strain!
Written By: Early2010sGuy on 09/02/20 at 4:59 pm
We all survived the majority of the year, one step closer to the vaccine, one step closer to a brighter future. We dont know what 2021 will bring, but you can have a better year by helping yourself achieve your goals and doing the things you like that motivates you, and you can start now! Need money? Apply for jobs! Bored of today's music? Find new music out of the mainstream. To achieve your dreams, you have to help yourself by starting easy, and making your way up to harder levels. That way, you'll gain more confidence and you won't regret it. Sorry to sound strict and I know this seems too happy for 2020, I just wanted to spread some positivity because there are people who need a little joy to have a better 2021, or even late 2020...
I wanted to thank people in this forum for allowing me to have the opportunity to spread this message, and we'll all get through this pandemic no matter how long.
Edit, 11/07/2020:
Biden has won the election, so there's more hope and good things to come!

It's not like things will just get magically better once 2021 hits... That's not how it works. The only thing you can do is try to make best of a bad situation. Things may get worse.

My platform choices for music are increasingly limited since I would need to stream and/or subscribe to even listen to music these days - there's always Bandcamp, eMusic and hopefully Qobuz though. I am hoping 2021 turns out better for me since I have quite a few plans lined up for it - for one, I'm planning to try and move out by that year.

Music stores are quickly becoming a thing of the past and being replaced by what is essentially radio on demand. Other ways of sourcing MP3s have dubious legality.

Wherever there is money to be made the option will always be around. Just like you can rarely find cassette tapes and CDs these days but they are still around when you look for them as there is a niche market for it. The same is to be said about digital downloads, so I will stick to it personally. I don't like subscription services I think they are a rip off. I want to actually own the record I buy. But companies makes tons of money off them which is why it has become so popular.

It will either be a continuation or just get worse. An economy can't magically be fixed overnight and the current civil unrest won't just disappear immediately. Plus more lockdowns are continuing to occur now which will further cripple the economy. We can pretty much expect this to be the vibe of the entire early 2020s.

Actually I find that weeks are easier to count. Fewer in number and each one goes by pretty quick. That said we are 2 days from the 7 week mark.
Kind of off topic but does anyone notice Europeans talk about how they're in Week 48 or how they went on vacation in Week 32 etc.
I don't know what week number it is. I didn't even know that was a thing, but I met a Danish person and a Spaniard who talk about week numbers like I would know what time of year "week 32" is. I noticed it on French websites too, saying things like "This is the highest number of COVID-19 cases since week 21!" What does that even mean?!

It doesn't seem as bad as the media/social media makes it out to be. I was half-joking when I gave it the ratings that I did, just like when I post the "If 2020 was a..." memes. Looking back I still felt the late 2013/early 2014 period was worse. Meanwhile I know someone who said this is the best year ever since she got married, and I know many other people who got married, engaged, had babies (or all 3) this year.

That so often happens. in solitude, or "in the silence" as mystics say, things can really come together for a person. Like the caterpillar in a cocoon you can emerge into the new normal as a butterfly. That's the silver lining of this pandemic. :)

It will be like New Orleans after Katrina. Things have to be rebuilt. People aren't going to be just running willy-nilly into the streets. No way.

Let's see what Newspunch.com is.
An excerpt from Wikipedia (highlight by me)
NewsPunch is a Los Angeles-based fake news website known for spreading conspiracy theories, political misinformation and hoaxes, mixed in with real news stories. Originally named Your News Wire, it was founded in 2014 by Sean Adl-Tabatabai and Sinclair Treadway. In November 2018, it rebranded itself as NewsPunch, and began redirecting yournewswire.com traffic to newspunch.com.
A 2017 BuzzFeed News report identified NewsPunch as being the second-largest source of popular fake stories spread on Facebook that year, and a June 2018 Poynter analysis identified NewsPunch as being debunked over 80 times in 2017 and 2018 by Poynter-accredited factcheckers such as Snopes, FactCheck.org, PolitiFact, and the Associated Press.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NewsPunch
The rest of the article is very interesting to read too.
Mediabiasfactcheck rates it at "Very low" which is the worst possible rating.
https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/news-punch/
The newspunch article comes along with a list of random side effects without mentioning anything about them like how often they occur, what type of people would get them or which medication can cause what. Absolute zero info in that list just scaremongering. (strange I thought we were the ones living in fear...)
As for the numbers I have to look into how accurate they are later but the biggest question is not answered anyway and that is how many people would have died or died sooner without those drugs?
Without that number the whole article becomes useless fear mongering.

Yeah, but hey, I know we shouldn't celebrate too early but that's a sign that we might recover from 2020 problems 😀😅
Ok, I'll admit, things did go back to half-normal in Saskatchewan and Manitoba around May/June till Late October/November. Cases were down to double digits in my province, and we were allowed to travel to Manitoba in July, when they only had 11 active cases. We went to malls, but we still had to social distance, and shops limited the capacity for people (Up to 5 in small shops like The Source or Gucci, and up to 50 in bigger shops like Winners or Chapters). 80% of us still wore masks but people were hanging out with friends in groups, and restaurants were lined up albeit social distanced, and tables were crossed off or not allowed for usage.

Yeah, things were getting calm in the summer in Ontario as well. I went on vacation to a few lake towns and had fun. I don't want to say things were back to "normal"– I still avoided the 3Cs (closed, confined, crowded spaces) and spent my time outdoors, wore masks, sanitized etc–but I did not mind that at all. I actually enjoyed the slow, quiet paced summer. Usually summer is all hustle and bustle, loud, chaotic. This summer was calm and low-key.
What I can't tolerate is where we're at now with 8,000+ cases a day and 100+ deaths and overflowing hospitals 8-P If vaccines take us back to at least summer 2020 numbers I would not mind that at all, I can wait until 2022 for 100% normal if we can at least have some calm in the interim.

I don't deny that there are complications from prescription drugs I just said that we need additional numbers to put it into perspective. If that stuff heals or prolongs the life of 20 million who would have died and 100,000 die from it then it's still good that prescription drugs were around. But the site conveniently "forgets" to mention that because scare mongering to the blind sells (isn't that exactly what you are accusing us of?). I mean seriously that article had next to zero information and plenty of smoke and mirrors and someone with a working brain should see right through that with ease. I must wonder how comes that with all your wisdom you always end up on those garbage sites that a 12 year old should be able to identify as such? I mean seriously it's one garbage site after another and they are so easy to find out yet you fall for them. ???

I know, but I meant a new normal, kinda like where we are able to go hangout with friends again or party outside, not social distance and come in crowds, etc. :P Yes there will be major damages after the pandemic with businesses and the economy but I meant lifestyle
Probably most likely during the springtime.

That may still take awhile in most places. The change back to normal will be gradual. It could take another year.
They probably will get rid of outdoor dining.

Everything was nice and quiet and I liked that.

I think they would keep the outdoor dining areas as then you are out in the fresh air. Let the breeze blow the germs away.

In Manitoba and Saskatchewan, fancy dining areas like Browns Social House or PF Changs were still open, although with huge compromises in the Summer ;D But we'll see, I hope they'll stay

They should install better ventilation first before allowing indoor dining. Have health inspectors do random spot checks, if air ventilation is poor it needs to shut down/outdoor dining only. Maybe install anemometers so customers can now how bad the airflow is.

In some places like New York they have indoor dining outside which completely defeats the purpose but is technically legal. I don't know why people would want to do that during winter. Plus there are safety concerns with putting heaters in tents. They even have some weird plastic bubbles at some restaurants set up outside. It's as if the more uncomfortable you are, the less likely Covid will catch you. ::)

Because I don't think people would want to eat outdoors during the cold winter months (December, January and February) I can see people eating outdoors during (March,April and May) and maybe when it's very hot they can install some cooling machines for the outside dining.

Exactly. I have seen some tents in parking lots here. I'm not sure how good the airflow is in there but it fits the letter of the law banning indoor dining. That's why I think it should be based on airflow with accurate measurements.

If it is a clear sunny day, and I know I am going to be outside so have a big coat, I don’t mind sitting outside to eat. We did it all the time when we went skiing, much nicer than the indoor eating facilities in most ski places

Canada/northern US can have very brutal winters as you can imagine. Yesterday the high here was -6°C (21°F) and today it is -10°C (-14°F), not the most fun temperatures to have a hot meal in, and it gets even colder in January/February. :P

Thus far 26,000 doses of vaccine have been administered in Canada.
If everybody is to be vaccinated by September 2021 that means we would need 76 million doses (38 million people x 2 ) in 252 days. That's roughly 300,000 administrations a day, and we're only at 26,000 so far. They need to hurry up methinks. :-X

This is the point when one realizes how many people we actually are in the world, right? You can produce doses by the hundred thousands per day and it would still take years to get the world immunized. It's mind blowing thinking about it.

Here it's the other way around. The locations are set up, the teams are standing by but there is not nearly enough of the vaccine available so the centers aren't used yet and all that's happening right now are some mobile teams going to nursing homes to give the weakest the few shots they have.

I read today that the EU delayed approval of the Moderna vaccine, and so far has only approved the Pfizer/BioNTech one. That's probably why you guys are have that vaccine shortage. In Canada/US both Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna are approved (and in the UK AstraZeneca-Oxford University vaccine also got approved).
Anyway, there's now a reliable vaccine queue calculator for Canada: https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/vaccine-queue-ca
My estimated inoculation date is between July and August 2021, assuming 70% of people are willing to get a vaccine. I was hoping to get it before the summer, but ah well. :P

There has been some discussion here in the U.K. as to whether it would be better to vaccinate people at work before older people.
The decision the government made was to work down from oldest to youngest (in general, certain long term conditions bump you up the list). With Covid the older you are means you are more likely to end up in hospital.
Still most people will be vaccinated by the end of the summer.
Just out of curiosity, how much does the vaccine cost in the USA?

The Ron Paul Institute? Oh well...
Interestingly neither of these articles attributes the deaths to the vaccine. After all, we are talking about very old people, they sometimes die.
You have a distinct tendency to allow others to convince you by suggesting causality due to correlation, a common logical fallacy used especially by conspiracy theorists. Correlation nearly suggests the possibility of causation, but far from proves it

You are aware that the vaccination has been going on for months now in some parts of the world?
Shouldn't a lot of other nursing homes experience the same problem if it was due to the vaccine?
Well, they don't. So just by using your brain you can already tell that the article must be pure BS.
Oh and if you were actually interested in the full story he linked to his source:
https://www.syracuse.com/coronavirus/2021/01/covid-19-outbreak-at-auburn-nursing-home-infects-137-residents-kills-24.html
Here is the main part (highlight by me)
The outbreak at The Commons on St. Anthony in Auburn started Dec. 21 as a wave of post-Thanksgiving Covid-19 cases began hitting the county, said Julie Sheedy, an official of Loretto which operates the 300-bed nursing home.
Forty-seven employees have tested positive.
Further
The Commons gets a one-star rating, the lowest, from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. The one-star rating means the nursing home is considered much below average based on health inspections, staffing and quality of care.
What does this have to do with the vaccination? Did you even read that before you had to post it here? You said you question everything! What did you do to question the article before you posted it? You didn't even read the source material which yet again contradicted the article you posted! Happens pretty frequently, doesn't it? Just more lies, lies and more lies for the dumb and you eat them. What does that tell about you?
And another one:
https://www.zerohedge.com/covid-19/55-americans-have-died-following-covid-vaccination-norway-deaths-rise-29
42,000 people received the vaccine in Norway and 29 with massive health issues died. Serious enough to look into it sure, maybe a reason to not give it to elderly people with massive health issues but 41,971 people had no big issues and are now safe from Corona.
BTW jaminhealth since when do you care so much for the well being of the elderly with underlying conditions? You didn't seem to care for them when they got Covid...

The promising thing about J&J is that it only requires a single shot, whereas all the other vaccines require two doses. It will be useful in vaccinating people as quickly as possible. Another thing is it prevented 100% of deaths after one month.

Two new vaccines have published promising clinical trial results!
Covid-19: Novavax vaccine shows 89% efficacy in UK trials

Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Is 66% Effective In Preventing Moderate To Severe COVID-19

Worth mentioning however that they are both less effective (though still work) against the South African variant. :-\\
Wooo!! :D Oh wait... Not as effective against the new variant? :-\\ Ah well, still better than nothing

Well, that sucks. But at least J&J is 85% effective over severe COVID, and it's a single shot as well. So, that's pretty good, I guess.
