It was supposed to be a great year as summer Olympics years have been in the past, plus other promising events as well as holidays falling on certain days of week (ex: Cinco de Mayo on Taco Tuesday and Halloween on a Saturday). Of course even the Olympics themselves got cancelled. Since we had such a bad 2020, will we be owed a year and have 2022 as a great one instead? 2018 was pretty good as well, better than 2016 so maybe that's the new ebb and flow pattern. Or, could 2022 be so bad that it makes 2020 look like the good 'ol days by comparison? That's my concern.

I hope so, but it's then again, it's the future: full of surprises. I mean, no one in 2019 could've predicted that we would've had a global pandemic which forced people to practice social distancing and wear masks everywhere they went.

You can't have a full year without at least some bad news, Within the 12 months there is always going to be some good news you will enjoy but the bad depressing news will always have an effect on people. You can always do a percentage on 2020 on what the percentage of good news was and the percentage of bad news.

Also it depends on your perspective and how you look at it. For me, the odd number years turned out to be much better than the even number years usually at least for the 2010s decade. But I was never really interested in the Olympics myself.

We'll see. The only good news I could give is that a few vaccine companies like Astrazeneca and Moderna is on Phase 2 or 3 trials already, so there's still hope for 2021, though lets be realistic, we don't know what the future will bring.

I just had a thought come to mind yesterday. The 4 year cycle of ups and downs is like the 4 seasons within the year. The dark year can be compared to winter figuratively speaking (in real life I actually prefer the winter months in the climate I live in), then you have an uphill year that's like spring, and then you have a great year like summer (summer Olympics years used to be that type of year), and then you have a downhill year to represent fall showing signs that winter is coming, and then repeat cycle.

With face masks being made mandatory in the UK in enclosed spaces and on public transport again, I feel it is a good thing, in curtailing the spread of the new variant.

But one must be ever careful not to make it become a self-fulfilling prophecy. If one expects the worst there is every chance that is exactly what one might get, brought on by oneself. The subconscious has a way of doing that.

Now there's a possible invasion of Ukraine by Russia, which is concerning because my wife is from there and all her family/friends are there. It could be possible that 2022 will be so bad that it will make 2020, and 2021 look good in retrospect. If anything it is likely to be a continuation of the early 2020's situation, particularly with the pandemic.

I highly doubt it's going to get any better. Even if WWIII doesn't happen, we will be feeling the aftermath of this. It will add on to the supply shortage and inflation we are already dealing with.
