I know we probably won't know for sure until a few years from now in whether it dies off or sticks around, and I also know TikTok was popular in the late 2010s. But I haven't heard a lot about TikTok until this year. It seems to be the main popular thing in social media in 2020 and everyone started talking about it this year. Everyone is on TikTok and no one is on Instagram anymore like they were in the 2010s. So do you think in the future TikTok will be seen as 2010s fad or 2020s fad?

I think now we are living in something like "The Corona Era" kind of like the "Y2K Era" in the early 2000s. So I think we're in a mini-sub era now before we see the next era of the '20s emerge. Right now its all about the pandemic, racial tensions, the election, upbeat throwback songs, TikTok, late 2010s holdovers, etc. It's really a transitional era. But I do think TikTok is more part of the 2020s personally and will be seen as such in the future given how huge its become this year in 2020.

I don’t think TikTok is going anywhere soon. People 15ish and under love it. It’s like how youtube was when I was their age. So I’d say it looks like a 2020s thing for now.

It first got popular in late 2018 (thanks to the "Hit or Miss" meme), and became a global powerhouse by summer 2019. But if TikTok doesn't get banned, it'll be more of a 2020s thing due to its current domination.

You know they could do all this with US apps as well, they don’t have to actually be in control of the app, right? I don’t know if you’re American but as someone in Britain I think it’s kind of funny how paranoid Americans are when it comes to TikTok and China. For Europeans, a foreign government spying on us through our apps and browsing is something we pretty much take for granted  ;D

If it really does die this year as rumoured then I would say it was more of a 2010s thing for sure and only peaked in 2020.
