Subject: The 2020s aren't looking too good
Written By: GameXcaper on 07/01/20 at 6:40 am
With all of the stuff happening right now, I can imagine the 2020s having much more crime and violence than previous decades. The recession from the coronavirus, the absence of police, angry young males. Things are going downhill pretty fast, there are many girls my own age going into escorting or onlyfans or even trying to sell feet pics to get by. People are getting desperate. Social media and pornography have a lot to do with this as well. I think generational and political tensions will also get worse. Not to mention all of the border disputes and WW3 scares we've had so far. Automation, robots and AI, will make things even worse and with the advent of remote work, outsourcing will also become more common. Less and less people, especially young men are going into higher education, meaning the gender divide will be very big in the coming decades. And many of them will be left out of work due to dissapearing blue collar and white collar jobs. More people have debt, the middle class is disappearing and the gap between the rich and poor is widening. While housing, gas and vehicle prices will come down because less people will need to travel for work and rent office spaces, or travel on general when airplane tickets get expensive, I don't think it will be enough to offset the recession and student debt bubble. Things aren't looking too good. And here I was looking forward to enjoying my 20s after the crapfest that was the late 2010s

I thought it's just in Atlanta where I live (I wouldn't know, I barely left the state), but it seems like it's every city in the United States that's dealing with a spike in crime and violence, especially since the George Floyd protests but also because quarantine restrictions have been lifted. With the economy and unemployment as you mentioned, it has also contributed to it. Sadly people may turn to drugs as a way to escape the harsh reality, and we could be heading back to the crack epidemic like days of the late 1980's/early 1990's. Also because of the virus, people are abandoning the cities for the suburbs causing all the progress made in the inner cities to reverse and return to blight.

I agree, especially with how the early 2020s are going currently. How will Gen Z even survive young adult life with these hardships???

I thought The 2020's would be for looking forward towards the future but I think this pandemic might have stopped it.

2020 is not so clearer now?

I think this pandemic put a hold on things.

It made me think the 2010's weren't so bad after all.

Yep. I’ve thought this too. I’m in my early 20s and it sucks. Was going to get an internship and jumpstart my life after I got over my depression but then - bam! - 2020 hit. Stay close to the people you love. Have faith. We need a lot of love in this world to counteract the hatred and evil.

Sorry that happened to you, man. I wish you the best in life. :)

People love to fear monger and say we're living in the worst times. Trust me this is nowhere near as bad as the 1930s and 40s. We'll eventually recover so no use being super pessimistic

People are losing faith in the police as an institution because they pretty much only exist to kill suspects - they suspect Black people of most crimes even if they are innocent based on stereotypes. I'm losing faith in the police because they exist pretty much only to protect the rich and I'm not white so some cops may still treat me as suspicious.
Meanwhile big companies are getting away more and more with tons of crap with like breaches in privacy (e.g. Clearview AI). Governments are getting more authoritarian (China, Turkey, eastern Europe, Brazil, India, arguably the US too if you think about it, and more). This is a major concern of mine.
Living costs are getting pretty astronomical.
While my university grades may look great I'm not sure if it will mean anything for my future. I won't be able to move out as soon as I would hope to unless I take drastic measures, and I plan to get health and legal-related stuff sorted. While I live in the UK, it may still come down with various costs.

I wasn't alive back then but I've been spoiled by the 1980's, 90's, and 2000's.

2020 has made me really appreciate graduating in the early 2010s. I feel sorry for kids leaving school this year, their plans have been completely thrown into the air.

I’m just glad I’m planning on graduating in 2021, so I have a year till (hopefully) this dies down. It could be a lot worse. I feel for the high school class of 2020. They got their entire senior year taken away. Also I’m just glad I’m not in grade school right now. But yeah.. it’s been a ride. I am unemployed right now and I’ve been on my phone wayyyy too much. I am very addicted but I can’t peel myself away from it :-\\

People already have been saying 2020 lately has been a dumpster fire of depressing events and it's already 6 months into the new year.

And it's not getting any better now that we're in the second half. The only thing good is we are now closer to the end of the year than to the beginning. Also, I don't think our problems will just magically disappear at the stroke of midnight on New Years Eve. Usually a bad period seems to last for 12 months, weather it's the entire calendar year, or summer to summer like a school year (Summer 2013 until Summer 2014 was that way for me personally). Since March 2020 was when everything went downhill, maybe it will get better around 2021. That's no guarantee though, we could have 2+ bad years for the price of one. All I can say is waking up every morning in 2020 has been exhausting, and my faith being challenged. Sure, it's easy to have faith when everything is going well.

With the Bubonic plague and Black Death?
There were only two cases of the bubonic plague reported in Mongolia and in Russia, so it's not exactly a huge threat. But with all the chaos that's been going on in 2020, these stories just add fuel to the flames.

So far in the past 6 months I've seen viruses, mass shootings, black people getting shot, "Karens", Trump being stupid so maybe there might be some good at least down the road, one year can't be so bad.

There are cases of the bubonic plague every year in the US. It never actually went away.

Yes. I'm just thankful it's not the Black Death instead of the Covid virus. That would be worse!
