It is a comet, not a meteoroid so we're safe :p

That's cool. A positive light from all the dark times on earth.

I’ve been seeing something but I just assumed it was Venus. I’ve got a 10” dobsonian in the garage, I’ll have to take it out next time we have a clear night. Plenty of dark sky here. If I need to see down to the west horizon I can go to the marina park in town, there’s nobody there at night even in the summer.

Should be visible now with telescope. Should be visible to the naked eye in rural locations around St George’s Day but like about 2 in the morning. From the middle of May it should be easier to see.

I think it’s quite low on the horizon at the moment and not until the early hours. Even if you can see the horizon from your place you might find the street lights drown out the faint stars.

True, the street lights will impede on the viewing, not only that there are buildings, some high, that will obscure the view, and I not going out (for exercise) that time of the morning.

I saw the Hale-Bopp Comet back in 1997, sorry no photos, no camera at that time, anyway it was to dark...

I’m thinking of 1910 when Halley’s Comet came very close and the earth went through it’s tail. And another great comet that year. But all I can think of was years later with sinking of titanic, Spanish flu, world war 1. Not another great one till 1927 which I suppose could have foretold the Great Depression by a couple years.

Without doing any Google Searching, I was trying to reflect on when the last  Halley’s Comet passed by Earth, I had a feeling it was during the 1970s, When was that uprising or turmoil in Iran?

Early 1986. I remember because I saw it with my telescope. Got up early before sunrise and it was on the horizon to the east. Very short tail that fanned out away from the sun. Reminded me of one of those shuttlecocks for badminton. It wasn’t a great appearance, nowhere near what 1910 was so they say, but will probably be the only time I see it in my lifetime. We had a presentation at school one night and there was a guy who said he saw it when he was 4.

On the way to the presentation the song on the car radio was Dress You Up by Madonna. Good song that they never really played all that much.
