Subject: When did you notice the decline of Dubstep music?
Written By: temaichi on 03/09/20 at 8:09 pm
Dubstep music is one thing people can look back to in the past decade and remember being huge!
Towards the end of the 2000s and into the Early 2010s, the genre started to be more commercially successful with singles and remixes entering the charts.
The genre was quick to go mainsteam and i would say it peaked around the 2011-12 school year. I was introduced to the genre when i started listening to Skrillex and going through videoes in the UKF Dubstep channel on YouTube at the time.
When did the genre decline though? I would say 2014.

I do remember dubstep being everywhere in the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school years. I would say it declined around the 2013-2014 school year with Trap-infused EDM becoming big.

Around 2013, because I started to hear EDM a whole lot more at the time.

Why is this in the 2020s section? It's like making a new wave thread in the 90s one.
Dubstep's popularity collapsed way before the second half of the 2010s.

I think due to concerts getting cancelled left and right, some artists will switch to an even darker sound or at least haunting:

;D How much more darker can music be? I think we've reached the peak of darkness in mainstream music, because you won't be seeing black metal or screamo becoming popular genres on the charts anytime soon.

Yeah music is very dark and dystopian. Even the lyrics in the new songs coming out and how slow the beats are and depressing melody.
