Prince Harry and Meghan: Royal Family 'hurt' as couple begin 'next chapter'

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51043220

The Royal Family are said to be "hurt" at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's announcement they will step back as senior royals. Prince Harry and Meghan did not consult any senior royal before making the statement, the BBC understands. Buckingham Palace was "blindsided", said BBC royal correspondent Jonny Dymond, as talks about their future had begun but were in very early stages. The Palace said there were "complicated issues" to work through.

We feel just the same.

As the days seep on, Prince Harry is taking a lesser role in the Royal Family, and I feel there is a major news story about to hit the headlines, a major one that will place his position in the Royal Family.

This leaves an opening for Andrew to get back in the action, though.

Her mother is in Vancouver and her father is in Los Angeles.  They divorced when Megan was 3. She hasn't had much to do with her father or her half-sister for some time.  Scamantha was jealous of her marrying a prince.  :)

Well its not like they are likely to ascend to the throne anyway.  The next Royal Power Couple is the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornhole Cornwall anyway.

Prince Harry and Prince William dismiss “false story” in a UK newspaper today

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/live/2020/jan/13/prince-harry-meghan-royal-family-queen-duke-duchess-sussex-william

Prince Harry and Prince William have dismissed a “false story” in a UK newspaper today speculating about their relationship. The joint statement on behalf of the Duke of Sussex and Duke of Cambridge said: “Despite clear denials, a false story ran in a UK newspaper today speculating about the relationship between The Duke of Sussex and The Duke of Cambridge. For brothers who care so deeply about the issues surrounding mental health, the use of inflammatory language in this way is offensive and potentially harmful.” The statement does not specify which report, but they are believed to be referring to a story in The Times which was headlined “Princes ‘fell out because William wasn’t friendly towards Meghan’”. The move comes a day after the Sunday Times reported William saying “I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can’t do that any more; we’re separate entities.”

Queen agrees 'transition' for Harry and Meghan

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51099102

The Queen has agreed a "period of transition" in which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will spend time in Canada and the UK. She said she is "entirely supportive" of their desire for a new role but "would have preferred" them to remain full-time working royals. She expects final decisions to be made in the coming days, she said. Senior royals have been in talks about Prince Harry and Meghan's role after they said they wanted to "step back". In a statement, the Queen said the talks at Sandringham, which also involved the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge, had been "very constructive". "My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family," she said.

"Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family. My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family. Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives. It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK. These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.

The Duke of Sussex appears to have fallen victim to pranksters who he told Boris Johnson is set in his ways and Donald Trump has blood on his hands. Prince Harry was targeted by the pair of Russian hoaxers who pretended to be Greta Thunberg, telling him the were distant relatives and that she wants to marry Prince George to tackle climate change. During two phone calls recorded by the pranksters, Harry also claimed that US President Donald Trump has ‘blood on his hands’. Speaking about Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the duke described him as a ‘good man’ but as someone who is set in his ways. Prince Harry told the fake Greta that he is ‘certain’ a royal wedding would help, leaving the ‘her’ in fits of giggles as she suggests Prince George and James Windsor would make good potential suitors. The recording was broadcast on the state-controlled Rossia 24 TV channel and sees Harry being asked for help moving 50 penguins from the landlocked ex-Soviet state of Belarus to the North Pole.

The Queen will address the nation in a televised broadcast on Sunday, Buckingham Palace has announced. The broadcast will be aired at 20:00 BST (19:00 GMT). The Queen has suspended her royal duties and is currently at Windsor Castle in Berkshire with the Duke of Edinburgh. Last month she issued a message on the outbreak, saying the UK is “entering a period of great concern and uncertainty”. Sunday's address will be only the fourth of her 68-year reign beyond her traditional message on Christmas Day. The other three previous speeches to be aired came after the Queen Mother's death in 2002, ahead of Diana, Princess of Wales's funeral in 1997 and about the First Gulf War in 1991.

But now, as then, we know, deep down, that it is the right thing to do.”

The Duke of Edinburgh is being treated for an infection and is not expected to leave hospital for several days, Buckingham Palace has said.

Prince Philip, 99, was admitted to the King Edward VII's Hospital in London last Tuesday as a precaution after feeling unwell.

The reason for his admission was not initially given but the palace has now said he has an infection.

He is "comfortable and responding to treatment", a short statement said.

Both the duke and the Queen, 94, received Covid-19 vaccinations last month.

A palace source previously said that the duke, who turns 100 in June, had walked into the hospital in Marylebone unaided.

They're saying that if Harry returns to England then Prince Charles is threatening to take custody of Archie.  I wonder how in the hell that's supposed to work when Harry and Megan have no intention of ever returning to England in the first place?
Especially since Charles wasn't a great father to Harry in the first place.  Harry was acting out in his younger years because Charles was putting all of his attention on William and he was neglecting Harry.

Zara and Mike Tindall have announced the birth of a son, who they have named Lucas Philip Tindall.

A spokeswoman for the Queen's granddaughter and the former England rugby player said their third child was born on Sunday, weighing 8lbs 4oz.

The baby was born on their bathroom floor after they were unable to make it to hospital in time, Mr Tindall said.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are "delighted" at the news, Buckingham Palace said.

They "look forward to meeting their 10th great-grandchild when circumstances allow", a spokesman added.

The child is 22nd in line to the throne.

His middle name is in honour of both Mr Tindall's father as well as Mrs Tindall's grandfather.

Subject: How is Prince Harry able to attend his grandfather's funeral?

Written By: Philip Eno on 04/12/21 at 8:36 am

The Duke of Sussex is due to attend his grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral on Saturday.

It's the first time that Prince Harry, who now lives in Los Angeles, has visited the UK since he and his wife Meghan stepped back from royal duties last March.

But how is Harry able to travel? Well, he will be following the government coronavirus rules for travel.

These state that people arriving in the UK must:

#Take a Covid-19 test during the three days before departure and test negative

#Fill out a passenger declaration form (giving details of where they will be staying)

#Quarantine for 10 days and take further Covid-19 tests on day two and day eight

He doesn't have to stay in a hotel as the US is not on the government's "red list" of countries, from which travel is banned.

Guidance on holding a funeral in England - during lockdown - says that mourners who have come from abroad can leave their place of quarantine "in limited circumstances, including on compassionate grounds".

The prince could also be choosing to end his 10-day quarantine early under the government's "Test to Release" scheme, which allows you to take a test five days after arrival in the UK and leave isolation if it is negative.

The Queen is to attend the service of thanksgiving for the Duke of Edinburgh at Westminster Abbey.

Other senior members of the Royal Family will also be at the memorial at Westminster Abbey shortly for Prince Philip, who died last year aged 99.

The service will celebrate his public service and a "long life lived fully".

Representatives of his charities, including the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, are attending, as are members of European royal families.

It will be the first event, outside of her own residences, attended by the 95-year-old monarch this year.

The Queen has had problems with her mobility and had to pull out of the Commonwealth Service earlier this month.

Q: What is the difference between queen and queen consort?

A: A queen consort is the female partner, spouse or companion to the King. The consort is not a formal role, and is symbolic of the support the person gives the monarch. It is different to the queen regnant, who is the ruler in their own right, like Queen Elizabeth II. Before her, the previous queen regnant was Queen Victoria, whose husband Prince Albert was prince consort. Historically, male spouses to the queen regnant have taken on the title prince consort rather than king consort.

Do you have to be in England or can Prince Charles come to NY to knight you over there?
British or Commonwealth Nationals (or other nationals can still be honoured), and I always have believed to the investiture has to be held on British soil, usually at a royal palace.

BTW, he is King Charles now.

One good example of this is Sir Robert Geldof, born in County Dublin, Republic of Ireland (which is a part of the United Kingdom). He was granted an honorary knighthood (KBE) by Elizabeth II in 1986 for his charity work in Africa: it is an honorary award as Geldof is an Irish citizen. He is entitled to use the post-nominal letters "KBE" but not to be styled "Sir", as he is not a citizen of a Commonwealth realm, nevertheless the nickname "Sir Bob" has stuck and media reports continue to refer to him as "Sir Bob Geldof".

This is absolutely correct. Diana may have been a reluctant icon, but she was one nonetheless. They day of iconic figures is over (except those that survive from the earlier time).  The world is simply not set up that way any more. There can be no more Beatles, no more JFK. In fact Diana's 1980s heyday was the last of it. There are a lot of sociological reasons the world is no longer set up that way, social media not being the least of them.

This applies to whoever is king/queen as well.  There will be no iconic figure like Queen Elizabeth again. And again, because the world just doesn't operate that way anymore. Charles will come and go. Whomever comes after him (William?) will ascend to the throne but will not occupy the iconic position of gravitas that Elizabeth embodied throughout much of the 20th Century and into the 21st. The time of such figures is over.

You mean how they have become "gay icons"? They were never gay icons in their lifetimes because they never admitted to being gay and nobody was really thinking in those terms back then. Would they feel vindicated if they were alive today? Who knows. One gets the impression these men just wanted their careers to flourish and being gay wasn't really a part of it, unlike today when identity politics can make  "being gay" in itself practically somebody's entire career.

They were both gay before gay was so en vogue.

Yes, they were both gay, but both spent their entire careers denying it. In the 1950s Liberace took an English tabloid which accused him of being gay  to court to deny it and won. Paul Lynde openly spoke out against gay people in an infamous People magazine interview circa 1976. "Gay people killed Judy Garland but they won't kill me" he said.  And whatever one thinks about it today, they had their reasons for these actions. Career survival was among them. Openly gay stars were not embraced in mid-century America. It was one thing to be flamboyant and colorful but it was another thing to be outright gay.

So if you are saying "They were both gay before gay was so en vogue" meaning they were ahead of their time given how things are today, they were not. That would be to practice presentism and look at things that happened then through the lens of today. They spent their entire lives sweeping it under the rug. And again, they had their reasons and I do not judge.

As far as being iconic goes however, I would say that both Bewitched and The Brady Bunch, as entities and as the sum of their parts (more than just a "Robert Reed" or a "Dick Sargent") make the cut. And likely the Brady Bunch more so.

From Rock’s Wikipedia page:

Hudson married his agent’s secretary Phyllis Gates. Gates later wrote that she dated Hudson for several months, lived with him for two months before his surprise marriage proposal, and married Hudson out of love and not (as it was reported later) to prevent an exposé of Hudson's sexual past. Press coverage of the wedding quoted Hudson as saying: "When I count my blessings, my marriage tops the list." Gates filed for divorce after three years in April 1958, citing mental cruelty. Hudson did not contest the divorce and Gates received alimony of $250 per week for 10 years.

An urban legend states that Hudson "married" Jim Nabors in the early 1970s. Not only was same-sex marriage not legalized by any American state at the time, but, at least publicly, Hudson and Nabors were nothing more than friends. According to Hudson, the legend originated with a group of "middle-aged homosexuals who live in Huntington Beach" who sent out joke-invitations for their annual get-together. One year, the group invited its members to witness "the marriage of Rock Hudson and Jim Nabors", at which Hudson would take the surname of Nabors' character Gomer Pyle, becoming Rock Pyle. ;D’

Those who failed to get the joke spread the rumor, and as a result, Hudson and Nabors never spoke to each other again. :-\\

Apparently, he has a bladder cancer, small and easily treatable. An insult to people with cancer worldwide that he hasn’t been honest about it, but about what you’d expect.

To be fair, though, until recently it would have been kept completely secret. George VI's lung cancer was never revealed. I’m sure they are hiding much more tantalising secrets at the current moment than Charlie's. Indeed, quite possibly. George V's epileptic son John (1905-19) was kept completely secret.

It appears Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have "professionally separated". I'm not exactly sure what that means, since neither of them appear to have any actual "profession".

The New York Post reports:

Meghan Markle has released a statement following her appearance at a Thanksgiving event last week, sans husband Prince Harry. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly in the midst of a professional separation, with reports suggesting that their work relationship is “in a very bad state.” Indeed, over the last few months both the “Suits” alum, 43, and Harry, 40, have been seen attending various events solo.

Obviously. Nobody "professionally separates" if they haven't personally separated. This is the tip of the iceberg.

If Harry indeed sends Megan to Splitsville, he’ll still be a Royal Outcast. Relegated to spending holidays with Prince Andrew, and riding last in the occasional royal funeral procession.

I have to say that I do have issues with Camilla which I know I shouldn't because my issues don't really have to do with her but with how Charles treated Diana. But mainly because she reminds me of my dad's ex who I couldn't stand. And also, I am not a Brit.

And for good reason. She was a gold digging ho bag who was partying with then Prince Charles whilst he was still married to Lady Di (i.e., the “Tampoongate” scandal).

And yes, Charlie was a ho bag too.

Camilla was and is obviously the longtime love of Charles's life. Diana was the world's sweetheart, but her marriage to Charles was clearly an arranged marriage that neither party was very thrilled with, and anybody who couldn't see that from Day One just didn't have eyes. The fact that neither Charles nor Camilla has ever really been very much to look at, even in their younger days, is an indication that their love has always been real and not of a purely physical nature.

And don't forget, while she was married to Charles, Diana was having her affairs too. It's as if there was a mandate to both of them "do what you will but keep up the front". In the end Diana started to become very independent (and rightfully so) and they just couldn't keep up the front.
