Subject: 2011: The Year In Music
Written By: whistledog on 07/17/22 at 5:55 pm
I've been building up my decades playlist and I'm working on 2011 and it's been a nice little throwback to songs I loved and it's nice to hear them again!
I'll begin with one I was a big fan of, and it still sounds great. This is Take Me Away by Danny Fernandes and it peaked at #39 in Canada

One of the best new artists of 2011 was Romanian singer Alexandra Stan. The single Mr. Saxobeat was a smash hit around the world an even made the Top 40 in both the US (#21) and Canada (#25)

While she has never (to date) had another hit in the US or Canada, she still remains popular in Romania. The follow-up to Mr. Saxobeat was called Get Back (ASAP), which I thought was the better song. It peaked at UK #56 and was (to date) her last appearance in the UK chart

"Someone like You" is a song recorded by English singer-songwriter Adele. She and Dan Wilson wrote and produced the track for her second studio album, 21 (2011). XL Recordings released the song as the second single from the album on 24 January 2011 (the same day the album was released) in the United Kingdom and on 9 August 2011 in the United States. Accompanied only by a piano in the song (played by co-writer Wilson), Adele sings about the end of the relationship with her ex-partner. In 2012, "Someone like You" was voted the third-most favourite number-one single of the last 60 years in the UK. "Someone like You" appeared on many year-end lists about the best songs of 2011, and was the inaugural recipient of the Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance, at the 54th ceremony in 2012. The song also received a nomination for the Brit Award for British Single at the 32nd ceremony and also several other nominations. As of 2024, "Someone like You" is the fourth best-selling single of the 21st century and is the 36th-best-selling single in the history of the UK Singles Chart.

Here is a song called Life of the Party by a singer named Aleesia. This peaked at #79 in Canada. When I first saw this video, I went right out and bought the CD, which I still have, and I still play sometimes.

Here is Latin Moon, the 2nd single by a singer named Mia Martina. I have been a fan of this artist literally since day one and all these years later, she is still my #1 celebrity crush. Love this song!

One song I really liked from that year was “Brighter Than The Sun” by Colbie Caillat, from her third studio album, All Of You.
