Subject: 2013 is so nostalgic to me
Written By: NightmareFarm on 02/28/22 at 10:25 am
I hate the 2010s with passion but I make an exception for 2013 and the first half of 2014. That was the peak of my life and even objectively there were some improvements, music became much better without electropop and with nu-disco bangers like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4D7u5KF7SP8
8th gen consoles game out which got everyone excited as well. It was just a really vibrant and fun year. Shame the rest of the decade fell short of the mark. Very short of the mark...

That was the peak of your life forever, or just up until this point? :o

2013 was the best year of the 2010s for pop culture so it's natural you would be nostalgic for it.

Maybe there will be a new peak but it is the peak of my life right now. Everything for my personal life was perfect in the '13-'14 crossover year.

There was new pop culture that year which made it feel fresh and exciting at the time, even if some of it didn't age well later on.

I started college in Fall 2012 so I get really nostalgic for music from later 2012 - 2013. It was such a transitional time for me: I left home and moved up to San Francisco for college and was beginning to find myself. For example, Sky Ferreira's "You're Not the One" transports me back to Freshman year and coming home after a house party still kinda drunk. :-[ 8-P

This was one of my favorite years I remember. I turned 16 in the fall of 2013 and that was one of my favorite birthdays. I loved the fall that year, I made some new friends and got to go hiking. I also enjoyed the spring, I got to play with my school's concert band at a graduation for the first time.

For me it was the opposite. The later half of 2013 and the first half of 2014 was my least favorite part of the decade. Overall I didn't care for the 2010's, except the early part (2010-2012, and even the first half of 2013), and the later part (late 2017-2019), and 2015-first half of 2016.

I don't get this at all. You make an overall statement that "overall I didn't care for the 2010s" but then you go on to list practically every year as the part that you liked.
Parts you liked:
2010, 2011, 2012, early part of 2013, 2015, early part of 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019.
Shouldn't you have said "overall I liked the 2010s except for 2013 and the first half of 2014"? That makes more sense. You seem to meticulously keep track of it all, but then you got it backwards. ???

2013 was an alright year, I remember GTA V being pretty much advertised everywhere and was the most hyped up game of the year and I remember a friend's older brother buying not too long after it's release date in September and playing it in their living room, I also remember "What Does The Fox Say" being another huge Youtube trend too.

You can easily say 2013 was objectively the best year of the 2010s. Especially for the pop culture. But for my personal life that winner would be 2017.
I graduated high school in 2013 though so it's pretty nostalgic to think back on that.
2013 is like a perfect separator from the classic 2010s and the modern 2010s. 2013 had a mixture of both classic and modern 2010s elements.

I would say the classic 10s are 2010 - late 2015 and the modern 10s are late 2015 to 2020

GTA mania was absolutely ridiculous. Late 2013 with GTAV has to be the biggest a game has ever had influence on society i've experienced in my life.
I was extremely hyped for Pokemon X/Y whilst everyone else was playing GTA V. I waited all year for that game to come out and begged my parents for a 3DS to play it.
Good times, I wish I could go back to those carefree days.

That's uncanney, we're almost complete opposite in which parts of the decade we prefer. 2014-2015 and 2016-2017 were the worst crossover years for me.

Actually maybe it would have been easier to list the parts I didn't like, which was the later half of 2013/first half of 2014 and then the later half of 2016/first half of 2017. It just seemed like those were big chunks of the decade, and I didn't care for the decade while living through it, but looking back it wasn't so bad for the most part, especially compared to the 2020's.
