I find it hard to choose between any of the early 10s years since that era as a whole were very similar when it came to memes. I guess i'd say 2012 since that was the peak of the rage comics/top text & bottom text era. Modern memes just don't do it for me. There should be an early 10s meme revival in the future.

I remember the ones with Smudge The Cat in 2019 - 2020. Those always made me laugh!

Unless you go by the definition of a meme that is anything popular, online or offline, I hate memes in general.
So I probably have to go with the earliest year.
