Subject: 2010 in fashion: Closer to 2008 or 2012

Emos were already dead by then, but you could still see some long haired folks and hipsters were slightly approaching

Well, emo's popularity died out in 2010, due to bands like Fall Out Boy going more into pop rock, so emo fashion also died out at that point. The hipster subculture was also getting popular, despite getting ridiculed on the Internet. So, it's 2012 for me.

When did ripped jeans become the fashion?

When did ripped jeans become the fashion?
Ripped jeans weren't really fashionable until the 90s, popularized by the grunge scene.

Closer to 2008 because guys still wore their hair long but also closer to 2012 because side shaves started to be fashionable. I'd wager closer to 2008 because big facial hair on guys wasn't so popular and side shaves, while they were starting to become fashionable, weren't everywhere yet. Not to mention hair dyes too, which was almost still exclusive to girls and even then was done very subtly. Also, one wearing skinny jeans would be derided, and V-necks were still around.

2008 IMO. Like Riven said, the guys fashion especially for hair was a lot longer in 2008 and 2010. By 2012, that style was noticeably less common.

Closer to 2008 I’d say, in 2008-2011 everything was neon inspired.

I've been noticing teens, mostly girls, wearing ripped jeans in 2010 high school pictures I came across in images. But ripped jeans were still in fashion in both 2008 and in 2012. So 2010 does have a fashion mixture between the two.
It honestly depends on what you remember in school. I was in a catholic elementary school and we mostly wore uniforms. :P

I’m British so we obviously wore uniforms in school. It’s not like we wore them on weekends though. :P
In retrospect I really hate how I dressed in the late 00s/early 10s, but then I didn’t really have much of an idea about what looked good on me. It’s honestly not until my early 20s or very late teens that I started dressing ‘nice’.

I don’t think my school had weekend detentions thankfully!

2012. Fashion was bright, skinny and colourful! 2008 was still on the dark and baggy side. Not nearly as saturated as the early-mid 2010s.

2010 was dark and baggy with some colorful accessories on top, hair swoops abound. Different from the super skinny, hipstery, earthy colored with side shaves of 2012, and definitely closer to 2008.

IIRC, 2011 was the year when the hipstery aesthetic started to be trendy. I guess 2010 is a bit closer to 2008.

2008. People wore neon and all that but I wouldn't say that was an everyday thing. In general, people still dressed pretty 2000s.

2010, in general, was a weirdly unique year in pop culture. I posted this on another thread, to illustrate my point on this matter. 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 were not necessarily fully 2000s nor 2010s, an equal mixture of both really. 2010 fashion was still primarily '2000s', but the music was treading towards '2010s', I would say. Hence this year being the epitome of the aforementioned 'Electropop' era.

"Flared" would be the correct wording compared to before, but definitely baggier compared to what came after.

These sagging kinds of pants were definitely closer to those of 2008 than 2012.

I honestly forgot how 'baggy' 2010 still was. Yeah, definitely more of a definitive reason as to why 2010 was closer to 2008, fashion wise.
